PART I

Ianto Jones woke with a start, stifling a scream.
The darkness took him, leaving him bewildered and gasping for a moment, transfixed by terror, which prevented him from every gesture, every sound. There was something in the dark, something that should not have be fragments of a strange dream and terrible entanglement between her brows, like spider webs.
Then switch on the bedside lamp post snapped, and a warm amber light spread, dissolving, at least in part, in the shadows.
"It's okay, Ianto?"

thoughtful voice to the silence of Jack did what he had done in the dark light, and his hand on the skin, his arm around my shoulder, broke the tension , drove out the crippling feeling of helplessness.
"A nightmare ... a terrible nightmare ... "Ianto murmured, squinting, infinitely comforted by that embrace, the scent of him that enveloped him, penetrating, persistent, damn exciting ...
"I want to talk about it, Ianto?" Jack whispered in his hair, making it adhere better of him.
Ianto nodded his head in denial, with the conviction of a child who believes he can make harmless nocturnal monsters simply denying their existence.
"No. .. maybe tomorrow ... Now I do not want to think about it ... "she whispered, leaning on Jack, rocked from his arms with a sigh.
Jack did not answer. Ianto closed his eyes.
But now he opened them. Why
there was something wrong, an unpleasant feeling, an anxiety which gripped the back, stealing his breath.
Maybe he was dealing with the nightmare, perhaps with the room too dark, as if the light from the lamp to struggle to stay on, more and more weakened.
Maybe it had to do with the strange smell that was overlapping the scent of Jack, a sickly sweet, vaguely nauseating, which made one think of crushed flowers, marciscenti, decay, rot ...
"What is that smell?" Jack asked, trying to lift his face to watch it.
But Jack's arm holding him too strong, preventing any movement, and the fingers of the hand resting on her shoulder pressed with unusual force, penetrating the flesh, making him sick. Ianto tried to move again, more and more suffocated by the smell, vaguely aware that the touch of his fingers, usually warm and velvety, sent him a feeling hostile, slimy, disgusting.
"Jack ?..." she whispered, looking the other's face, barely visible in the darkness more dense, the lamplight swallowed, choked.
And finally saw him, saw his eyes staring at him strangely bright, angular, elongated, and saw the horrific grin that distorted his features, them altered. And the teeth, the God of heaven, those long, sharp teeth like knives, escaping from his lips, unable to contain them, that opened and closed with an almost metallic sound, terrible ... The reality
s'infranse as a window hit by a rock, exploding against him in a storm of sharp shards.
shouted, pushing the creature away, only for purposes that he is unable to move, only to realize that that hand was already slimy her neck, her fingers pressed on the trachea that cut the flesh with claws that were not there before.
And while the world was confused in the dark blue of asphyxiation, Ianto shouted again, a cry of despair, who scratched his throat as broken glass.
"Ianto, are you alright?"
Her hands claw the air, while gasping for breath, and when they met the body next to his shot to hit, desperately.
"Ianto, calm down, it's me, Jack!"
Far from calm, the statement threw him into a panic. He began to kick, to strike blindly, wailing, screaming incoherent phrases.
"You had a bad dream, Ianto, just a dream!"
Jack was stronger than him. I had always been. Fighting was useless, but Ianto had a lot of desperation in the body, much of that fear, that it took considerable effort because the other was able to immobilize him.
"Good, Ianto, good ..." the cradle, tighten the arms, warning that his body gave way, bursting into sobs desperately low.
He held it tight, heedless of the wounds inflicted on him, blood trickling from a cut on the cheek, staining the white sheets. He held it tight as if he would never leave him, and slowly, I feel relaxed, yield, melting into his arms, in a desperate surrender.
"It was a dream ... a dream ..."
She kissed her hair, kissed his forehead, and touched his lips and placing his forehead on his stood looking at him in silence that followed, breathing her hot breath. Beat strongly felt Ianto's heart was beating against his chest and, God, how he loved that sound! ... Each
fear was dispelled, the only thing that precious moment that clung to both: the same breath, the same skin, the same heart. The illusion, for that stolen moment, no longer alone.
Jack was the first to leave. Drew back his head to better see the companion who still kept his eyes closed. In his eyes closed and expression Tug is still clinging to him read the signs of the nightmare. But to hear him move Ianto opened his eyes slowly, almost with fear.
There were no questions. Only a questioning look and a nod, encouraging, while with his right hand Jack shook his head to reassure him.
Ianto was a tangle of emotions, an unresolved and painful that he could not find their clue. Be affected in that way, while he was exposed, leaving him completely adrift, and awareness, more and more solid, that it had been just a dream, not enough to free it from that sense of despair and loss.
raised Jack looked up, filling his eyes, trying to fill that void. He saw her fingers go up, almost fearful, to follow the contours of that beautiful face, drawing the line volitional jaw, which was balanced by the soft curve of her lips full. He sighed, exhausted, leaning on him.
"I'd rather die than lose" their voice heard come from a very remote place.
lifted his gaze, looking to Jack, as read by a sudden awareness. When he spoke again sau voice was firm, almost hard.
"I'd rather kill you than see you change ' said, grabbing his chin in his fingers and forcing him to watch it.
Jack frowned and tried to smile, but the expression of Ianto was such that even for him dfficile sdrammatizare.
"Well, Ianto, I authorize you to do it," he whispered, gravely. And leaning forward to kiss his forehead added
"Rather, realize that you do it really, if you ever happen."

"Christ, Jones, you suck more than usual!"
Owen Ianto gratified look of disgust, as he sat in his place. He
did not answer, except with a little gesture of impatience.
"You look tired," said Gwen, with a decidedly softer tone.
"You see that it hurts you work late?" Mocked him Owen, pitiless, "Ah, this damn attachment to duty! .. Ouch!" The
slap Jack struck him full in the neck, producing a pop sound and forcing him to collect his head in his neck.
"Hello everyone, except you, Owen" saluted the Captain.
"I was just kidding! Gwen had told would not have taken a slap! "protested the doctor.
"No, you're right. She would spank. "Joked Julian appearing from the kitchen with a tray of the steaming held above his head like an acrobat. He had taken the role of handyman almost seriously, waiting to actually be able to help. Ianto placed himself close to bringing the tray and bowed his reach.
"You'll see that it makes you resurrect, India is a mixture enriched with a personal touch."
Gwen Owen looked bad and it was clear that asks you if had provided a personal touch not let him. Those two had become great drinking buddies, adolescents seemed to chase the worst stunt. If Julian was understandable in so everything was new .. well. Gwen folded his arms to his chest and lifted the nose to the ceiling.
Ianto tried to smile at the attempts of his colleagues cheered.
In fact, at that time, while the frenetic activity of the base kept them all busy, and the neon lights illuminate every day in more remote ravine, ghosts and monsters of the night seemed more distant and feeble than ever . Jack's gaze was wrapped in thoughtful, and smiled when she felt completely reassured.
"Actually I think I just need to sleep," said Julian, taking the cup of tea and inhaling the fragrance.
"Wow, this really could raise the dead," she smiled.
Toshiko went into that moment with a red binder close to the chest. That day had started on his heels and a pretty green that made me think of spring, but the real touch of class was a thin strand of pearls around his neck.
Gwen felt tenderness towards him when he saw her slow down and try to walk on the tips to be more discreet. He threw the eye to see if others had noticed it: the sense of camaraderie that is breathed behind it was wonderful, but it could have as negative an uncommon harshness. But
Toshiko joined them greeted by smiles. When he arrived in the morning, no matter what had happened the previous night, monsters or exhausting research, she always had a solar aspect and carrying a bit optimistic 'in a good mood. In a job where you had to often deal with death and unnecessary risk of feeling that was a big deal.
"Hello everyone" he began putting the package on the table. Julian put his next to a steaming cup earning a strange look on Ianto. Maybe that was because he wanted to see him and smiled wrong.
"I bet you worked all night." Teased the Owen.
"Oh no, I did not work ... "She smiled warmly" I was in bed and read the newspaper ... "
Owen ran a hand over his eyes sadly.
"It does not look like that! I do not believe you ever read ... not sex ever read a sex ... to bed. "coughed and turned bullish towards Jack.
"Well, I read the newspaper - well, its digital version, I was on the police database - ... "
Owen smiled satisfied and you could see the face in an" I told you so. "
".. and there was a complaint of animal protection. Well, I'm moved away if you abuse animals and I've read about that. "Threw a copy of the newspaper of Cardiff fresh hot off the press on the table, grasped the cup as a weapon and gave him a great gulp.
Jack was to pick up the newspaper and open it, while others were ready to listen.
It took him a little to find the page that had struck the interest of Tosh. While the lines ran her blue eyes darkened, and a little wrinkle marks the forehead.
"cat colony risks extermination. A colony of cats living in the Cathays Cemetery in Cardiff was in danger of being swept away by the cruelty of a pair of elderly sisters living in the area. The two unsuspecting little old ladies have it covered with liquid fuel the small warehouse that was used by cats for years as a shelter and set it on fire. Only the prompt intervention of the cemetery staff has prevented the animals, trapped in the flames, to meet a terrible end. The two women were arrested. "
" People are more freaked out, "Owen muttered. "In my times the old women went to bring food to stray cats, did not give them fire ... "
" But this made him "broke Toshiko, and seeing the expression on the face of continued Owen.
"These two ladies went every day to bring food to cats, and prendeavno care of them for years ... The employees of the cemetery were very surprised by this gesture "
" I can not believe all those poor cats. "Commented Gwen with her eyes already lost in his imaginary fire.
Jack handed the newspaper to read the details, then leaned back the chair and looked at them with a half grin:
"We do not like the old women who burn cats do you?"
Gwen moved uncomfortable as he read. "You say there's something down there?"
"This you must tell me, I want to place within twenty minutes." And clasped his hands with delight in front of him.
"Twenty minutes? And why? The fire is already sedated, we only investigate "Owen protested, but did not find any support, only a ìsopracciglio Jack curving an angle dangerous.
"Toshiko stay here, and Ianto are Julian." Was his only reply.
to defuse Gwen coughed, pulled her chair back and stood up quickly distributing orders and collecting tools. The two named were each banned for its own reason, but both with pleasure. Ianto for every opportunity to prove its worth over the role of the butler was coming well, it was not for the thrill of danger that intoxicated as - we pondered - as the sex pheromone of the fifty-first century, concluded satisfied. He tried the corner of Julian with a big smile face already waiting near the exit. It was so different from the person who had first met him, thirsty for knowledge as a child, but with the strength and determination of an adult. I wonder if he realized that it was the first time that Jack let him go on a mission without him. It was officially part of Torchwood, it was already spent more than a month after his arrival, and certainly was a purchase that had enriched the group. But only a simpleton would not have noticed how Jack always check the distance or have forgotten that there were many things unsaid in his past. or however many things unsaid in their ... When
Ianto took Julian's exit came up, brisk and confident smile. They reached the SUV and departed in search of old women arsonists. The radio came on with the engine in the car and spread to the whole volume and velvety deep voice of Jim Morrison:

I found an island in your arms Country in your eyes

Arms
That chain us Eyes That Lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Gwen leaned Julian's ear to be heard "Look, you should not stop at forty years ago ...."
Julian, however, only smiled.

Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

They made time to be in place before Tosh them contact us.
The car trip was spent pleasantly, enlivened by the music and the usual bickering. Gwen had always enjoyed the role as the only woman on the team, mixing with a wisdom all his duties as a female heroine with his rights as a representative of the weaker sex. Not that they had a lot of space ...
"I thought in the nineteenth century there were gentlemen" had complained jokingly Julian, a few days before, "such as the novels of Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters and ... Instead the six of us happened to you! No justice! "
The truth was that Julian was quite natural to treat it with the same camaraderie that the reserves the other, just as was natural to be more polite, even gallant, with Toshiko.
"The problem is not the men of the nineteenth century, or those of three thousand," remarked Owen, sardonic as ever, "The problem is only you, Gwen Cooper
It was after yet another exchange of words between guncotton two spirited colleagues, who had continued even when others had lost interest in them. Also that day
jokes and pranks were not lacking, indeed, the absence of Jack made them all the more daring and carefree as students leave.
Even Ianto, in spite of the night passed, he enjoyed stirring up the bickering and stand now with Owen, now with Gwen, giving a hand to Julian.
had passed the arch of access to Cathays Cemetery and had traveled a few tens of meters across the manicured lawns, dotted with plaques and statues of angels, when Toshiko's voice reached them.
"Guys, there has been a development in the story of two old ladies ..."
"What?" Owen interrupted, "They threw the goldfish in the water and pulled the toilet? "
" No. .. "Toshiko's voice faltered for a moment," I am death. Killed themselves jumping at the surface together ... "

\u0026lt;b> PART II \u0026lt;/ b>

The SUV stopped on the cobbles and were stunned for a moment to reflect.
"Maybe," Gwen was the first to talk about "we should divide us. Owen and I can go to the police station, I still have a few friends happy to see a former colleague there, Owen will recover the bodies and brought them Hub. "Then turning to the rear seats where Ianto checked on a display map of the cemetery and Julian with his hands behind his head, idly watching the outside," You two could check the stock. "Ianto nodded
;. The structure of the cemetery did not seem in any way predetermined, no particular form, no satellite design. Perhaps that may prove to be only a dead end or perhaps the place where the madness had begun. From the corner of his eye he saw something to give Gwen Julian and looked up curiously. It was an automatic pistol, just like Jack had always refused to give him.
"You never know .." winked at Gwen.
Julian hesitated, for the same reasons they had done to harden the gaze of Ianto. It was certainly not afraid of his arms, as the awareness that this was a clear violation of orders, a temptation too strong for his rebellious blood.
"Come on, take it." Gwen said again and no longer had to insist. Julian took the weapon and stuffed inside a backpack. Then he tried the look of Ianto, seized on his thoughts and replied with a smile villain.
"They want us to wait on the scene? Jack awaits his account .. "
Only he heard in his ear a hoarse voice comment. "Waiting ...."

The car drove off, raising a cloud of white dust from the gravel.
Ianto rolled his eyes.
day was unusually hot and humid for this time of year. Gray clouds were still hanging on the horizon, without deciding to bring a bit of rain. Indeed, their presence hung like a suffocating cloak, making it difficult to even breathe.
The boy loosened his tie with her fingers, on his way back through the archway entrance, as in a sort of deja-vu.
They reached out the stock, which bore the obvious signs of recent fire.
Julian stepped on a wet cardboard, almost undone by the diligence of the fire department to a pulp.
barely had time to take a step that shot out of a bush just off a cat, which disappeared as fast as a shadow passing it between your feet.
Scotsman smiled, after the initial surprise.
"If there was Gwen probably would have shot him before he realized what it was," Ianto said with his usual duties.
There was a brief exchange of silent smiles.
The store did not reveal anything useful. The fire and water used to extinguish had left little to be examined.
"I did not know there was the Luna Park in the City"
Julian, intent on studying the blackened walls, Ianto turned to look questioningly.
In response the other he waved a sheet scorched and stained in several places, printed in color.
"It stinks of fish ..." Ianto said with a grin, "was probably used for wrapping food."
Julian shrugged.
"Do you think is relevant to the investigation?"
Ianto gave a small smile.
"No. .. I do not know ... I have always liked the rides. "
" I think this is a sign of vital importance. "The corrected Julian. "We need a good dose of insanity to set fire to the comfort of old age and then break his head against a wall.
"A mirror" Ianto corrected him. Julian muttered as if he saw this big difference.
"I do not know" replied Ianto doubtful. "Maybe we should try still here .." he said turning around, pushing some stones with his foot to show off new leaflets of Luna Park. Julian watched him with his arms folded against the wall.
Then they both heard the musical voice of Jack in their heads
"Ianto, Julian, it seems a great idea. See you at Luna Park. "

Paradoxically, to achieve Julian Jack and Ianto had no choice but to return to the base.
fact, Luna Park was built not far from Roald Dahl Plass, in a fund industry that overlooked the bay of Cardiff.
As Gwen and Owen had taken the SUV, the two had to take a taxi. Event
this Vallantine which gave Julian a chance to be enlightened on the political situation elevated and very little English dall'eloquio a Welsh taxi driver to say the least angry.
When they came down near the Luna Park, the young Scot was almost in tears, and so it was that saw him meet Jack, always flanked by stately, even smiling, Ianto.
For a single moment on his face was painted by Captain smug expression, the sight of two men. So different between them, yet so very pleasing! Julian had taken a modern look that scruffy and somewhat complicit long hair always tied in a soft tail on the back of his neck, gave him an air damn sexy.
Impeccable in its full mat, the only one po'lasca tie around the neck, with a Ianto would not have marred the opening ceremony of courses in Oxford, as a young teacher, as a student.
But it was not time, and it was not the place, and the Captain had to suppress the impulse to forget, for an afternoon of his many duties, to devote himself exclusively to the pleasure ...
"We're a little too big for the rides, Captain?" Said Julian, but he was already glancing with evident curiosity in the direction of the colorful structure. In reality it was a small amusement park, in the light of the morning, looked very bleak and desert. Attractions, all closed, had known better times, the painted facades covered with a layer of dust and salinity.
the control booths, ticketing, all empty. On the trail of bumper cars were abandoned at random on the track as if it were simply taken off the electricity in the middle of the race.
weird macabre this place looks abandoned. "Said Julian looking at each other curiously" Perhaps those were old flyers. "
"Oh, no." Ianto was checking his handheld "E 'come to town last Monday, these people just always seem grim and deserted during the day. It 's like a stage, come alive at night with people, lights and music. "
" You're romantic, Ianto Jones, "said Jack, raising his eyebrows.
In the air hung a faint scent of popcorn and sweeter than the donuts. Then somewhere a violin began to play an old tune. (A charge opposite in fact) seemed familiar, but none of the three was able to recognize it.
Jack Harkness will put his hands in the water moving back pocket of his coat and sniffing the pleasure of an unexpected experience at the gates.
"Well, gentlemen, I think this call for a full-blown, what do you think? "he said making headway.
Ianto was a step behind him, eyes a bit 'sull'inseparabile handheld, a bit' on rides around them trying to navigate. 'There is something strange here ... "
" But do not tell me ... "Julian said, but was ignored by the other two.
"I see the waves of spreading a fracture in the slot, but it's as if they were interrupted, asymmetrical cut ...." Ianto continued to see his instrument did not understand it reads. Not at all impressed
Julian continued to fill your eyes with details, occasionally stopping to look around and actually Ianto wondered how that must have seemed to view without ever having known the true nature of that place. Whatever the true nature then.
"So Captain, people pay to be scared," he asked finally.
"Given the work we do we can not judge them if they go hunting for some 'thrill is not it?"
"movie, shot in the dark .. man eats of emotions as it feeds on food and water "Ianto pondered aloud, looking for something that obviously could not to focus. Julian did not know what else to do started trying to imitate did not know what. All of them seemed surreal, perhaps he should give chase to normal.
"Captain ..." Ianto called at one point indicating a two-story building shaped like a castle from the front.
But Jack was gone.

resumed wandering around the amusement park, Ianto more restless now, though he did not give to see the bright eyes that moved relentlessly in the hope of seeing the familiar figure of Jack, the undulation of the water in his coat military. Suddenly, stupidly, all the anxiety he had spent the night plunged back him, and clawed limbs, the darkened mind, subtly insinuating and suggesting pregnant thoughts of death and terror.
They followed the music, without consultation, motivated by a common, tacit agreement, and the music had brought them before an attraction covered by heavy curtains navy blue and silver, before suddenly silenced.
"What?" Julian whispered, and at the same time uttering those words in which he wondered why he did a voice so low ...
"It seems a sort of Hall ..." Ianto replied, thoughtfully. "Maybe the tent of a fortune teller, o. .. "
His voice broke in her throat in a hoarse cry. Julian saw his side in alarm.
As he spoke, Ianto had lifted the tent flap and found himself in front of someone who, from the inside, was doing the same.
Or so he thought he ...
"It is a maze of mirrors," said Julian, grinning in amazement.
and lifted the curtain back to reveal a pale Ianto Jones stared at its image, several steps back.
Julian would have laughed to exorcise the ghostly atmosphere that had fallen on them, but turning to Ianto and sees his eyes including crossed that something was wrong in loving. He turned, checked the mirror again to find the cause for much alarm, but could only frown incapable of understanding.
Ianto did not move even when the Scot dropped the towel and returned alone. For some reason completely irrational that it could not explain to his friend, he had felt at the sight of her heart in a fist as if every fear, every nightmare, they were again fired over the line of reality. Her lips tightened into a slot, Ianto felt his heart racing wildly and had to regain control of their breath before they can again speak. He said only, a small voice: "We have to find Jack."
Julian at his side was still more confused, he continued to search for any real sign that warned of the danger himself, but he was as blind an unbearable sensation of helplessness that had become partner, but never tolerated. His companions had turned to him with eyes that see the world, their reactions followed alert to see if the situation was under control or was slipping from their hands, if that was normal or simply alien. Ianto hear now lose his mask of control posted in front of something that could not even see awakened in him a sense of fear which made his heart speed up and sharpen directions.
Yet it all seemed the result of their suggestion.
Ianto was to break the deadlock, rushing to a corner where they had been stacked tools and spare parts. He grabbed two bars and running towards the entrance of the structure gave a mate. The idea that Jack had entered without them, without him she could warn him of the nightmare the night before, had put the fire in the blood. He turned once, twice moving the tarpaulins to find the entrance.
"If someone was playing that violin is still in and we'll find it." Urged Julian. "And if Jack is inside the first find that nothing happens. "
Julian's body had a pensive look. Tended not to ask questions relating to feelings, that was an area that turned out to be even larger in the botany of the twenty-first century, but in a sense he was glad to be there only as a witness to that situation. In fact he had the impression that Ianto actually had forgotten his presence.
"Ianto" ventured to calm "We do not know if it is inside. He was here with us and can not preceded us much. "But
words were lost in the void. Ianto had just found the entrance to the House of Mirrors and I had entered without looking back. One, two steps, the first lane and stopped to observe them with six Ianto Jones and many young Scots. A rain of dusty light descended upon them, creating a world of shadows, light and angles of segments blacks. The two moved instinctively shoulder to shoulder. Julian had drawn the gun from his backpack Gwen to be ready for anything, but had the good sense not to release yet secure.
Somewhere returned to play the violin and it was clear that he was just calling them but understand where it came from in the maze was virtually devoid of cardinal points impossible.
Ianto followed his instinct for the sense of urgency that was not taken and the direction they took in the heart of the labyrinth. Seven Vallantine watched him start and then followed him.
Procedettero in quel mondo di prospettive ingannevoli, dove lo spazio perdeva di significato, dilatandosi in un gioco di infiniti passaggi. A Ianto seemed to be swallowed at any moment from those galleries illusory, seized by another self. He avoided even looking at his reflection, fearing to see her expression change
... "Jack!" He exclaimed, unable to bear more than the silence in which shatters his breath.
He seemed to seize a shadow blue, and almost broke his nose jumping in that direction, and finding himself alone in front of another mirror.
"I think it's better to go out, Jones suggested Julian, putting a hand on his shoulder as he rubbed his face in pain, and Ianto did not resist. The violin was silent again.
It was not easy to find the exit, as always in the maze of mirrors, it was next to the entrance.
"Probably never even came here," Julian suggested, encouraging.
"It will be gone elsewhere to explore, and we only lost time. "
Ianto nodded absently, and even when we finally heard the voice of Jack in the earpiece, calmed down at all.
