PART I

Ianto Jones woke with a start, stifling a scream.
The darkness took him, leaving him bewildered and gasping for a moment, transfixed by terror, which prevented him from every gesture, every sound. There was something in the dark, something that should not have be fragments of a strange dream and terrible entanglement between her brows, like spider webs.
Then switch on the bedside lamp post snapped, and a warm amber light spread, dissolving, at least in part, in the shadows.
"It's okay, Ianto?"

thoughtful voice to the silence of Jack did what he had done in the dark light, and his hand on the skin, his arm around my shoulder, broke the tension , drove out the crippling feeling of helplessness.
"A nightmare ... a terrible nightmare ... "Ianto murmured, squinting, infinitely comforted by that embrace, the scent of him that enveloped him, penetrating, persistent, damn exciting ...
"I want to talk about it, Ianto?" Jack whispered in his hair, making it adhere better of him.
Ianto nodded his head in denial, with the conviction of a child who believes he can make harmless nocturnal monsters simply denying their existence.
"No. .. maybe tomorrow ... Now I do not want to think about it ... "she whispered, leaning on Jack, rocked from his arms with a sigh.
Jack did not answer. Ianto closed his eyes.
But now he opened them. Why
there was something wrong, an unpleasant feeling, an anxiety which gripped the back, stealing his breath.
Maybe he was dealing with the nightmare, perhaps with the room too dark, as if the light from the lamp to struggle to stay on, more and more weakened.
Maybe it had to do with the strange smell that was overlapping the scent of Jack, a sickly sweet, vaguely nauseating, which made one think of crushed flowers, marciscenti, decay, rot ...
"What is that smell?" Jack asked, trying to lift his face to watch it.
But Jack's arm holding him too strong, preventing any movement, and the fingers of the hand resting on her shoulder pressed with unusual force, penetrating the flesh, making him sick. Ianto tried to move again, more and more suffocated by the smell, vaguely aware that the touch of his fingers, usually warm and velvety, sent him a feeling hostile, slimy, disgusting.
"Jack ?..." she whispered, looking the other's face, barely visible in the darkness more dense, the lamplight swallowed, choked.
And finally saw him, saw his eyes staring at him strangely bright, angular, elongated, and saw the horrific grin that distorted his features, them altered. And the teeth, the God of heaven, those long, sharp teeth like knives, escaping from his lips, unable to contain them, that opened and closed with an almost metallic sound, terrible ... The reality
s'infranse as a window hit by a rock, exploding against him in a storm of sharp shards.
shouted, pushing the creature away, only for purposes that he is unable to move, only to realize that that hand was already slimy her neck, her fingers pressed on the trachea that cut the flesh with claws that were not there before.
And while the world was confused in the dark blue of asphyxiation, Ianto shouted again, a cry of despair, who scratched his throat as broken glass.
"Ianto, are you alright?"
Her hands claw the air, while gasping for breath, and when they met the body next to his shot to hit, desperately.
"Ianto, calm down, it's me, Jack!"
Far from calm, the statement threw him into a panic. He began to kick, to strike blindly, wailing, screaming incoherent phrases.
"You had a bad dream, Ianto, just a dream!"
Jack was stronger than him. I had always been. Fighting was useless, but Ianto had a lot of desperation in the body, much of that fear, that it took considerable effort because the other was able to immobilize him.
"Good, Ianto, good ..." the cradle, tighten the arms, warning that his body gave way, bursting into sobs desperately low.
He held it tight, heedless of the wounds inflicted on him, blood trickling from a cut on the cheek, staining the white sheets. He held it tight as if he would never leave him, and slowly, I feel relaxed, yield, melting into his arms, in a desperate surrender.
"It was a dream ... a dream ..."
She kissed her hair, kissed his forehead, and touched his lips and placing his forehead on his stood looking at him in silence that followed, breathing her hot breath. Beat strongly felt Ianto's heart was beating against his chest and, God, how he loved that sound! ... Each
fear was dispelled, the only thing that precious moment that clung to both: the same breath, the same skin, the same heart. The illusion, for that stolen moment, no longer alone.
Jack was the first to leave. Drew back his head to better see the companion who still kept his eyes closed. In his eyes closed and expression Tug is still clinging to him read the signs of the nightmare. But to hear him move Ianto opened his eyes slowly, almost with fear.
There were no questions. Only a questioning look and a nod, encouraging, while with his right hand Jack shook his head to reassure him.
Ianto was a tangle of emotions, an unresolved and painful that he could not find their clue. Be affected in that way, while he was exposed, leaving him completely adrift, and awareness, more and more solid, that it had been just a dream, not enough to free it from that sense of despair and loss.
raised Jack looked up, filling his eyes, trying to fill that void. He saw her fingers go up, almost fearful, to follow the contours of that beautiful face, drawing the line volitional jaw, which was balanced by the soft curve of her lips full. He sighed, exhausted, leaning on him.
"I'd rather die than lose" their voice heard come from a very remote place.
lifted his gaze, looking to Jack, as read by a sudden awareness. When he spoke again sau voice was firm, almost hard.
"I'd rather kill you than see you change ' said, grabbing his chin in his fingers and forcing him to watch it.
Jack frowned and tried to smile, but the expression of Ianto was such that even for him dfficile sdrammatizare.
"Well, Ianto, I authorize you to do it," he whispered, gravely. And leaning forward to kiss his forehead added
"Rather, realize that you do it really, if you ever happen."

"Christ, Jones, you suck more than usual!"
Owen Ianto gratified look of disgust, as he sat in his place. He
did not answer, except with a little gesture of impatience.
"You look tired," said Gwen, with a decidedly softer tone.
"You see that it hurts you work late?" Mocked him Owen, pitiless, "Ah, this damn attachment to duty! .. Ouch!" The
slap Jack struck him full in the neck, producing a pop sound and forcing him to collect his head in his neck.
"Hello everyone, except you, Owen" saluted the Captain.
"I was just kidding! Gwen had told would not have taken a slap! "protested the doctor.
"No, you're right. She would spank. "Joked Julian appearing from the kitchen with a tray of the steaming held above his head like an acrobat. He had taken the role of handyman almost seriously, waiting to actually be able to help. Ianto placed himself close to bringing the tray and bowed his reach.
"You'll see that it makes you resurrect, India is a mixture enriched with a personal touch."
Gwen Owen looked bad and it was clear that asks you if had provided a personal touch not let him. Those two had become great drinking buddies, adolescents seemed to chase the worst stunt. If Julian was understandable in so everything was new .. well. Gwen folded his arms to his chest and lifted the nose to the ceiling.
Ianto tried to smile at the attempts of his colleagues cheered.
In fact, at that time, while the frenetic activity of the base kept them all busy, and the neon lights illuminate every day in more remote ravine, ghosts and monsters of the night seemed more distant and feeble than ever . Jack's gaze was wrapped in thoughtful, and smiled when she felt completely reassured.
"Actually I think I just need to sleep," said Julian, taking the cup of tea and inhaling the fragrance.
"Wow, this really could raise the dead," she smiled.
Toshiko went into that moment with a red binder close to the chest. That day had started on his heels and a pretty green that made me think of spring, but the real touch of class was a thin strand of pearls around his neck.
Gwen felt tenderness towards him when he saw her slow down and try to walk on the tips to be more discreet. He threw the eye to see if others had noticed it: the sense of camaraderie that is breathed behind it was wonderful, but it could have as negative an uncommon harshness. But
Toshiko joined them greeted by smiles. When he arrived in the morning, no matter what had happened the previous night, monsters or exhausting research, she always had a solar aspect and carrying a bit optimistic 'in a good mood. In a job where you had to often deal with death and unnecessary risk of feeling that was a big deal.
"Hello everyone" he began putting the package on the table. Julian put his next to a steaming cup earning a strange look on Ianto. Maybe that was because he wanted to see him and smiled wrong.
"I bet you worked all night." Teased the Owen.
"Oh no, I did not work ... "She smiled warmly" I was in bed and read the newspaper ... "
Owen ran a hand over his eyes sadly.
"It does not look like that! I do not believe you ever read ... not sex ever read a sex ... to bed. "coughed and turned bullish towards Jack.
"Well, I read the newspaper - well, its digital version, I was on the police database - ... "
Owen smiled satisfied and you could see the face in an" I told you so. "
".. and there was a complaint of animal protection. Well, I'm moved away if you abuse animals and I've read about that. "Threw a copy of the newspaper of Cardiff fresh hot off the press on the table, grasped the cup as a weapon and gave him a great gulp.
Jack was to pick up the newspaper and open it, while others were ready to listen.
It took him a little to find the page that had struck the interest of Tosh. While the lines ran her blue eyes darkened, and a little wrinkle marks the forehead.
"cat colony risks extermination. A colony of cats living in the Cathays Cemetery in Cardiff was in danger of being swept away by the cruelty of a pair of elderly sisters living in the area. The two unsuspecting little old ladies have it covered with liquid fuel the small warehouse that was used by cats for years as a shelter and set it on fire. Only the prompt intervention of the cemetery staff has prevented the animals, trapped in the flames, to meet a terrible end. The two women were arrested. "
" People are more freaked out, "Owen muttered. "In my times the old women went to bring food to stray cats, did not give them fire ... "
" But this made him "broke Toshiko, and seeing the expression on the face of continued Owen.
"These two ladies went every day to bring food to cats, and prendeavno care of them for years ... The employees of the cemetery were very surprised by this gesture "
" I can not believe all those poor cats. "Commented Gwen with her eyes already lost in his imaginary fire.
Jack handed the newspaper to read the details, then leaned back the chair and looked at them with a half grin:
"We do not like the old women who burn cats do you?"
Gwen moved uncomfortable as he read. "You say there's something down there?"
"This you must tell me, I want to place within twenty minutes." And clasped his hands with delight in front of him.
"Twenty minutes? And why? The fire is already sedated, we only investigate "Owen protested, but did not find any support, only a ìsopracciglio Jack curving an angle dangerous.
"Toshiko stay here, and Ianto are Julian." Was his only reply.
to defuse Gwen coughed, pulled her chair back and stood up quickly distributing orders and collecting tools. The two named were each banned for its own reason, but both with pleasure. Ianto for every opportunity to prove its worth over the role of the butler was coming well, it was not for the thrill of danger that intoxicated as - we pondered - as the sex pheromone of the fifty-first century, concluded satisfied. He tried the corner of Julian with a big smile face already waiting near the exit. It was so different from the person who had first met him, thirsty for knowledge as a child, but with the strength and determination of an adult. I wonder if he realized that it was the first time that Jack let him go on a mission without him. It was officially part of Torchwood, it was already spent more than a month after his arrival, and certainly was a purchase that had enriched the group. But only a simpleton would not have noticed how Jack always check the distance or have forgotten that there were many things unsaid in his past. or however many things unsaid in their ... When
Ianto took Julian's exit came up, brisk and confident smile. They reached the SUV and departed in search of old women arsonists. The radio came on with the engine in the car and spread to the whole volume and velvety deep voice of Jim Morrison:

I found an island in your arms Country in your eyes

Arms
That chain us Eyes That Lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Gwen leaned Julian's ear to be heard "Look, you should not stop at forty years ago ...."
Julian, however, only smiled.

Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

They made time to be in place before Tosh them contact us.
The car trip was spent pleasantly, enlivened by the music and the usual bickering. Gwen had always enjoyed the role as the only woman on the team, mixing with a wisdom all his duties as a female heroine with his rights as a representative of the weaker sex. Not that they had a lot of space ...
"I thought in the nineteenth century there were gentlemen" had complained jokingly Julian, a few days before, "such as the novels of Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters and ... Instead the six of us happened to you! No justice! "
The truth was that Julian was quite natural to treat it with the same camaraderie that the reserves the other, just as was natural to be more polite, even gallant, with Toshiko.
"The problem is not the men of the nineteenth century, or those of three thousand," remarked Owen, sardonic as ever, "The problem is only you, Gwen Cooper
It was after yet another exchange of words between guncotton two spirited colleagues, who had continued even when others had lost interest in them. Also that day
jokes and pranks were not lacking, indeed, the absence of Jack made them all the more daring and carefree as students leave.
Even Ianto, in spite of the night passed, he enjoyed stirring up the bickering and stand now with Owen, now with Gwen, giving a hand to Julian.
had passed the arch of access to Cathays Cemetery and had traveled a few tens of meters across the manicured lawns, dotted with plaques and statues of angels, when Toshiko's voice reached them.
"Guys, there has been a development in the story of two old ladies ..."
"What?" Owen interrupted, "They threw the goldfish in the water and pulled the toilet? "
" No. .. "Toshiko's voice faltered for a moment," I am death. Killed themselves jumping at the surface together ... "

\u0026lt;b> PART II \u0026lt;/ b>

The SUV stopped on the cobbles and were stunned for a moment to reflect.
"Maybe," Gwen was the first to talk about "we should divide us. Owen and I can go to the police station, I still have a few friends happy to see a former colleague there, Owen will recover the bodies and brought them Hub. "Then turning to the rear seats where Ianto checked on a display map of the cemetery and Julian with his hands behind his head, idly watching the outside," You two could check the stock. "Ianto nodded
;. The structure of the cemetery did not seem in any way predetermined, no particular form, no satellite design. Perhaps that may prove to be only a dead end or perhaps the place where the madness had begun. From the corner of his eye he saw something to give Gwen Julian and looked up curiously. It was an automatic pistol, just like Jack had always refused to give him.
"You never know .." winked at Gwen.
Julian hesitated, for the same reasons they had done to harden the gaze of Ianto. It was certainly not afraid of his arms, as the awareness that this was a clear violation of orders, a temptation too strong for his rebellious blood.
"Come on, take it." Gwen said again and no longer had to insist. Julian took the weapon and stuffed inside a backpack. Then he tried the look of Ianto, seized on his thoughts and replied with a smile villain.
"They want us to wait on the scene? Jack awaits his account .. "
Only he heard in his ear a hoarse voice comment. "Waiting ...."

The car drove off, raising a cloud of white dust from the gravel.
Ianto rolled his eyes.
day was unusually hot and humid for this time of year. Gray clouds were still hanging on the horizon, without deciding to bring a bit of rain. Indeed, their presence hung like a suffocating cloak, making it difficult to even breathe.
The boy loosened his tie with her fingers, on his way back through the archway entrance, as in a sort of deja-vu.
They reached out the stock, which bore the obvious signs of recent fire.
Julian stepped on a wet cardboard, almost undone by the diligence of the fire department to a pulp.
barely had time to take a step that shot out of a bush just off a cat, which disappeared as fast as a shadow passing it between your feet.
Scotsman smiled, after the initial surprise.
"If there was Gwen probably would have shot him before he realized what it was," Ianto said with his usual duties.
There was a brief exchange of silent smiles.
The store did not reveal anything useful. The fire and water used to extinguish had left little to be examined.
"I did not know there was the Luna Park in the City"
Julian, intent on studying the blackened walls, Ianto turned to look questioningly.
In response the other he waved a sheet scorched and stained in several places, printed in color.
"It stinks of fish ..." Ianto said with a grin, "was probably used for wrapping food."
Julian shrugged.
"Do you think is relevant to the investigation?"
Ianto gave a small smile.
"No. .. I do not know ... I have always liked the rides. "
" I think this is a sign of vital importance. "The corrected Julian. "We need a good dose of insanity to set fire to the comfort of old age and then break his head against a wall.
"A mirror" Ianto corrected him. Julian muttered as if he saw this big difference.
"I do not know" replied Ianto doubtful. "Maybe we should try still here .." he said turning around, pushing some stones with his foot to show off new leaflets of Luna Park. Julian watched him with his arms folded against the wall.
Then they both heard the musical voice of Jack in their heads
"Ianto, Julian, it seems a great idea. See you at Luna Park. "

Paradoxically, to achieve Julian Jack and Ianto had no choice but to return to the base.
fact, Luna Park was built not far from Roald Dahl Plass, in a fund industry that overlooked the bay of Cardiff.
As Gwen and Owen had taken the SUV, the two had to take a taxi. Event
this Vallantine which gave Julian a chance to be enlightened on the political situation elevated and very little English dall'eloquio a Welsh taxi driver to say the least angry.
When they came down near the Luna Park, the young Scot was almost in tears, and so it was that saw him meet Jack, always flanked by stately, even smiling, Ianto.
For a single moment on his face was painted by Captain smug expression, the sight of two men. So different between them, yet so very pleasing! Julian had taken a modern look that scruffy and somewhat complicit long hair always tied in a soft tail on the back of his neck, gave him an air damn sexy.
Impeccable in its full mat, the only one po'lasca tie around the neck, with a Ianto would not have marred the opening ceremony of courses in Oxford, as a young teacher, as a student.
But it was not time, and it was not the place, and the Captain had to suppress the impulse to forget, for an afternoon of his many duties, to devote himself exclusively to the pleasure ...
"We're a little too big for the rides, Captain?" Said Julian, but he was already glancing with evident curiosity in the direction of the colorful structure. In reality it was a small amusement park, in the light of the morning, looked very bleak and desert. Attractions, all closed, had known better times, the painted facades covered with a layer of dust and salinity.
the control booths, ticketing, all empty. On the trail of bumper cars were abandoned at random on the track as if it were simply taken off the electricity in the middle of the race.
weird macabre this place looks abandoned. "Said Julian looking at each other curiously" Perhaps those were old flyers. "
"Oh, no." Ianto was checking his handheld "E 'come to town last Monday, these people just always seem grim and deserted during the day. It 's like a stage, come alive at night with people, lights and music. "
" You're romantic, Ianto Jones, "said Jack, raising his eyebrows.
In the air hung a faint scent of popcorn and sweeter than the donuts. Then somewhere a violin began to play an old tune. (A charge opposite in fact) seemed familiar, but none of the three was able to recognize it.
Jack Harkness will put his hands in the water moving back pocket of his coat and sniffing the pleasure of an unexpected experience at the gates.
"Well, gentlemen, I think this call for a full-blown, what do you think? "he said making headway.
Ianto was a step behind him, eyes a bit 'sull'inseparabile handheld, a bit' on rides around them trying to navigate. 'There is something strange here ... "
" But do not tell me ... "Julian said, but was ignored by the other two.
"I see the waves of spreading a fracture in the slot, but it's as if they were interrupted, asymmetrical cut ...." Ianto continued to see his instrument did not understand it reads. Not at all impressed
Julian continued to fill your eyes with details, occasionally stopping to look around and actually Ianto wondered how that must have seemed to view without ever having known the true nature of that place. Whatever the true nature then.
"So Captain, people pay to be scared," he asked finally.
"Given the work we do we can not judge them if they go hunting for some 'thrill is not it?"
"movie, shot in the dark .. man eats of emotions as it feeds on food and water "Ianto pondered aloud, looking for something that obviously could not to focus. Julian did not know what else to do started trying to imitate did not know what. All of them seemed surreal, perhaps he should give chase to normal.
"Captain ..." Ianto called at one point indicating a two-story building shaped like a castle from the front.
But Jack was gone.

resumed wandering around the amusement park, Ianto more restless now, though he did not give to see the bright eyes that moved relentlessly in the hope of seeing the familiar figure of Jack, the undulation of the water in his coat military. Suddenly, stupidly, all the anxiety he had spent the night plunged back him, and clawed limbs, the darkened mind, subtly insinuating and suggesting pregnant thoughts of death and terror.
They followed the music, without consultation, motivated by a common, tacit agreement, and the music had brought them before an attraction covered by heavy curtains navy blue and silver, before suddenly silenced.
"What?" Julian whispered, and at the same time uttering those words in which he wondered why he did a voice so low ...
"It seems a sort of Hall ..." Ianto replied, thoughtfully. "Maybe the tent of a fortune teller, o. .. "
His voice broke in her throat in a hoarse cry. Julian saw his side in alarm.
As he spoke, Ianto had lifted the tent flap and found himself in front of someone who, from the inside, was doing the same.
Or so he thought he ...
"It is a maze of mirrors," said Julian, grinning in amazement.
and lifted the curtain back to reveal a pale Ianto Jones stared at its image, several steps back.
Julian would have laughed to exorcise the ghostly atmosphere that had fallen on them, but turning to Ianto and sees his eyes including crossed that something was wrong in loving. He turned, checked the mirror again to find the cause for much alarm, but could only frown incapable of understanding.
Ianto did not move even when the Scot dropped the towel and returned alone. For some reason completely irrational that it could not explain to his friend, he had felt at the sight of her heart in a fist as if every fear, every nightmare, they were again fired over the line of reality. Her lips tightened into a slot, Ianto felt his heart racing wildly and had to regain control of their breath before they can again speak. He said only, a small voice: "We have to find Jack."
Julian at his side was still more confused, he continued to search for any real sign that warned of the danger himself, but he was as blind an unbearable sensation of helplessness that had become partner, but never tolerated. His companions had turned to him with eyes that see the world, their reactions followed alert to see if the situation was under control or was slipping from their hands, if that was normal or simply alien. Ianto hear now lose his mask of control posted in front of something that could not even see awakened in him a sense of fear which made his heart speed up and sharpen directions.
Yet it all seemed the result of their suggestion.
Ianto was to break the deadlock, rushing to a corner where they had been stacked tools and spare parts. He grabbed two bars and running towards the entrance of the structure gave a mate. The idea that Jack had entered without them, without him she could warn him of the nightmare the night before, had put the fire in the blood. He turned once, twice moving the tarpaulins to find the entrance.
"If someone was playing that violin is still in and we'll find it." Urged Julian. "And if Jack is inside the first find that nothing happens. "
Julian's body had a pensive look. Tended not to ask questions relating to feelings, that was an area that turned out to be even larger in the botany of the twenty-first century, but in a sense he was glad to be there only as a witness to that situation. In fact he had the impression that Ianto actually had forgotten his presence.
"Ianto" ventured to calm "We do not know if it is inside. He was here with us and can not preceded us much. "But
words were lost in the void. Ianto had just found the entrance to the House of Mirrors and I had entered without looking back. One, two steps, the first lane and stopped to observe them with six Ianto Jones and many young Scots. A rain of dusty light descended upon them, creating a world of shadows, light and angles of segments blacks. The two moved instinctively shoulder to shoulder. Julian had drawn the gun from his backpack Gwen to be ready for anything, but had the good sense not to release yet secure.
Somewhere returned to play the violin and it was clear that he was just calling them but understand where it came from in the maze was virtually devoid of cardinal points impossible.
Ianto followed his instinct for the sense of urgency that was not taken and the direction they took in the heart of the labyrinth. Seven Vallantine watched him start and then followed him.
Procedettero in quel mondo di prospettive ingannevoli, dove lo spazio perdeva di significato, dilatandosi in un gioco di infiniti passaggi. A Ianto seemed to be swallowed at any moment from those galleries illusory, seized by another self. He avoided even looking at his reflection, fearing to see her expression change
... "Jack!" He exclaimed, unable to bear more than the silence in which shatters his breath.
He seemed to seize a shadow blue, and almost broke his nose jumping in that direction, and finding himself alone in front of another mirror.
"I think it's better to go out, Jones suggested Julian, putting a hand on his shoulder as he rubbed his face in pain, and Ianto did not resist. The violin was silent again.
It was not easy to find the exit, as always in the maze of mirrors, it was next to the entrance.
"Probably never even came here," Julian suggested, encouraging.
"It will be gone elsewhere to explore, and we only lost time. "
Ianto nodded absently, and even when we finally heard the voice of Jack in the earpiece, calmed down at all.

PART 5

When they were alone
Ianto still holding his prisoner with one of those positions that Jack had taught him: that of Julian in his arms and hands with fingers crossed behind his neck. He could then see the face of the other, her face drawn, her lips tightened to stifle every cry of pain for what was a very uncomfortable position on his shoulder, his eyes behind which lurked a quiet storm of emotions. Julian endured the humiliation of her situation was to barricade himself behind silence, Ianto listened to him as if they were words spoken aloud.
voice, because he, more often than not, he used silence as a dress. The base seemed
living around them, all those little sounds that the men of Torchwood now knew well and made her feel like a home and more, almost a person.
"Leave me alone." Whispered Julian.
Ianto did not move.

"Leave" was not an order, it was not a plea, "Let me sit down before you I must lead by weight."
"Promise not create me problems?" Asked Ianto, the stern voice, but condescending to those who seek to wrest a promise to a recalcitrant child. As he spoke
loosened his grip and pushed toward Julian the elevator that led to the detention level.
"In spite of appearances, he wants to help," he murmured from somewhere behind him, as the doors opened with a buzz.
"We all want ... and I fear that there is no one else who might be able to do so, "he concluded, following him into the elevator. Julian
with disheveled hair on the face, the lip was swelling up now, it seemed that the young man who hid his manner composed. She kept leaning against the wall of the studying and Ianto, who was standing erect with his head under the cold light of neon.
"I would have otherwise killed." Concluded. "But you can not blame me if I do not like being in a cell."
Ianto was silent and Julian so back, the car stopped with a controlled braking. They went out in the hallway of the fifth level, greeted by a growl that did stiffen Wyville Julian.
"Fear not, can not get out of them."
"As a child I heard about the circus of monsters." He went to the cell straining his eyes, ravished by her curiosity.
"They were probably just unfortunate human beings."
"Maybe." Her face just inches from the glass. "The nights were the darkest time, Ianto Jones. The brightest stars. "And they turned their backs to the Wyville just when they rushed on.
"I believe that you are in good faith. If you ask me go into that cell, I could help you if you ask me, there are no more than once, botanists, after all. "
"I do not doubt" Ianto Jones smiled, a smile so disarming politically correct.
"But it would be better if you had offered your help Jack, rather than jump to the throat" added, with a calm tone of objection.
"This puts me in a position to be able to trust you to a certain point, I think you understand." He added, almost apologetically.
The other nodded her head.
"You have to understand the terrible tension that we are all subjected, first to Jack ..." Ianto continued, looking toward the elevator.
"They are people dying ... it is our duty to understand what is happening, prevent it from happening again ... "He looked
, with neutral expression, clean.
"You think you can help us?"
"I think to prove ourselves. If you help me fill in the gaps I could do it. Unless I misunderstood the girl .. sent samples. "
" Tosh, yes, he did. "Ianto asked behind the mask of impersonal courtesy if that was not another trick a person's stroke. The young Scot, who does not see it so I
had exactly the look with gray eyes and hair almost blacks, seemed to never give up. Seeing Julian
hesitation filming "Where are you going so tanned? I saw these insects, God knows what else buzzing around the city. "Hesitated, took a deep breath, "I swear to you that your Jack
find me in my cage on his return." Ianto replied
provocation to provocation. "I see you quickly rejuvenate your speech." And the jab because he went to sign Julian paused thoughtfully.
"Come ..." Ianto seraphic smile, "but it would be very impolite to jump to the neck, remember that."

"Maybe it's like in that movie with the pods ... Invasion of the Body Snatchers ... "he muttered to himself, Toshiko, making yet another scan soil.
Owen Harper looked up at the dome of branches, which excluded the sky, making the air of Granger Gardens dense and dark as that of a virgin forest.
"Tosh, your encyclopedic knowledge of film history in the last ten years is admirable and speaks volumes about your social life! We want to try to work? "He snapped.
"E'quello I'm doing!" The Japanese protested, pouting.
"Here, then search for your fucking pods in silence," he said, sardonically.
"You can know what your problem, Owen? "Gwen growled, irritated by those sterile squabbles.
"As you are so good, why do not you suggest any solution, rather than criticize our proposals? What happened to twenty-two children and their teacher, in your mind sublime? "
The doctor did not answer. Why did not reply, damn ... That place no longer had even the appearance of a garden, benches engulfed by a thick, lush carpet of vines, vines hanging from trees to dizzying heights ... When Jack sopraggiuse, was surprised not to see him make his way with a machete.
"The growth was even faster than other times," said Toshiko.
"Whatever is purchasing power"
"Maybe he draws from his own victims ..." Gwen offered, and this time Owen even ventured to say anything. The event was as realistic as terrible.

Rather decided to control the activity of plant photosynthesis to not let his face trasparisse what disturbed him that chance ..
"a school can not vanish. Twenty-two monsters screaming ... "
Walking over a dense cover of moss green footprints left behind black humus and white gravel, white as bone.
If you do not think the situation that place could be lovely, fragrant spring. He felt touching the face by a light breeze and warm that it seemed a caress.
"Owen, come and see" Gwen called him back. "We found something."
And he roused himself from his thoughts and it was like a window that pops up: the noise of the street nearby, fears and frustration for the mission that saw no way out.
Gwen was showing him a bag covered with rotting leaves "It 's a backpack and there are others, oh my God Jack can not be true."
Jack who had arrived at that time next to them turned on itself, the' large coat that grew to the wheel. "It's okay, we will find them. Owen, location of the blades, we have to dig. Hurry, hurry! "

moments of frenetic activity ensued.
Even before Owen had returned from the suv with shovels, Jack had already jumped to the ground and dug with their hands. Tosh and Gwen, after a moment's hesitation, had imitated.
The urgency hung over them, terrible, hope you have guessed they were fighting with the absurd possibility that, on balance more reassuring, it was wrong.
Gwen was finding the first body, and communicate it to others with a desperate cry of joy:
"I found one! My God, is alive! "The child lay in
potion back, apparently asleep. His whole body was wrapped in a sort of cocoon virescence, thick and fleshy, who had protected him from the ground and allowed him to continue breathing. When Owen cut the cocoon with a scalpel, or outside a milky serum, strong smelling. While others dug Owen is dedicated to the child frantically wiping her face, stroking her hair. Emerged on the skin as a hair thin wires, brown, green, red, which is lost in the liquid. The child was alive but not breathing, the lungs had completely blocked like it was a amniotic fluid.
"I've found another me," said Tosh.
"Yeah, me too!" Echoed Gwen.
"Owen, how are they?" Jack had stopped digging and looked doubtful the trees above them.
"Evil will suffocate if not empty the lungs but it's like ... bound in a cocoon. " was already turning the baby to treat it like a drowning.
Jack went back to work, secure the face beaded with sweat, at one point threw aside his coat and rolled up his sleeves.
"I made a scannig ground, Lord's voice emerged Ianto close to Jack. "They are all below you, in a circle and there is 'something else'.
"feel"
"At the center there is' a plant, maybe a bulb, is placed just below you. It could be dangerous Lord "
"I always said that the vegetable is not good for health. See business? "
Instead of secure voice and personal Ianto, a little 'distant we heard another voice.
"It looks like a mushroom, the heart is at your feet but expands in the park. He must have created a symbiosis with plants and grow dramatically. If so may have done the same thing with children. God seems like a nightmare ... "
" What are you doing him there with you? Why did not you shut up Ianto, "Jack got up standing, the beautiful face beaded with sweat, the shirt is now black earth. "Ianto?"

"It's okay," reassured him Ianto.
"He's cooperating, and I think might be useful to us, Jack"
Owen caught the frown of the Captain and silently cursed the idiot of Ianto. Why the hell did not just make coffee and to ease tension and Jack, rather than assume the right to take action dick? ...
"I hope you know what you're doing, Ianto," Jack said dark.
And I hope you know what you will do if I were even think to hurt one hair, Julian Vallantine ...
"Ianto, alert ambulances, which are held ready ... Owen, do everything you can to keep children alive. Tosh, Update in real-time changes in the course, Gwen continues to dig, Julian ... "her voice hesitated, but only for a moment" you have no idea what could be done to force the bulb to break the bond without harm anyone? "

" Working by contradiction, perhaps .. "
" Well, "Ianto said softly beside him, looking at the corner of my eye. "So I would say that is the solution that best fits your situation. "The Scottish
just smiled, you could define embarrassed. Now that was no longer hemmed in by himself, now that he no longer felt in immediate danger, his survival instinct was again giving way to a more urban character.
"We hear" Jack encouraged him that he looked around uneasily as if sniffing the smell of a coming danger.
"I think it is a fungus having regard to its structure, not a bulb. I would not say nonsense, but I get the impression that has extended its filiform apparatus in the whole park binding in symbiosis with plants. Snap
the roots and surrounding apical forming a more dense grid, like a cocoon. And I think he did the same with children. "He hesitated before continuing. "Owen, you said
thin wires do not you?"
"Yes, I think they have to give oxygen to the body"
"Probably. It seems an impossible endosymbiosis. "Jack inervenne. "Imagine that in this world everything is possible, that I will offer another tea."
"I saw horses, metal, how many times I can still amaze me?"
"Oh, I hope an infinite number." Jack smiled wrong.
"You want to finish it?" Owen raised his voice intent to remove a child from another land. "What are these wires?"
"The fungus is introduced into their body, and this is obvious, but the same fungus is also linked to mutandole plants. They must have different functions and he certainly should be able to adapt I think that human beings serve as the energy, the body and plants as defense. "
" Fantasia, "said Owen close to try keeping up with others to work frantically "Great! You say you care enough fungicide? "
" Just as an antibacterial enough to kill a human being I'm afraid. "Julian was heard from the headset.
"Keep digging, it is still five to the appeal." Urged them to Gwen.

did not take long to remove all the bodies, including the teacher, a young woman on the face of which had already grown moss.
"Now," said Jack, "if the calculations are accurate Vallantine, at the very moment in which we will to remove the wires, should take some self-defense mechanism .. We need to keep us ready, boys. "
"I was born ready," Owen muttered, with an air of superiority.
Jack smiled. When the laser knife
Jack cut the first handful of filaments, they withdrew, closing in on themselves, like tiny snakes.
"E'solo it me or the earth shook?" Murmured Toshiko, alert.
all remained in play, while Jack proceeded to free the child from his prison filamentous.
"Well," threw out the Gwen, "does not seem so bad ..."
"Careful!" Owen warned, and once pulled a pistol from his trousers and fired in his direction. The wasp
giant fell to the ground, throwing deafening screams, splashes of dark blood and green liquid flooded the underworld with a foul-smelling rain.
Gwen glanced in horror to the insect, while in turn pulled out a gun and did fire on another creature.
"Thank you, Owen! Apparently your Audrey II has raised the alarm, "he joked, fierce.

arose a noise in the park vibrant, growing close and threatening all around them. The
Torchwood Cardiff met, shoulder to shoulder, arms drawn and ready. Toshiko challenged her with the tip pointing down slightly, the lessons of Jack at the shooting had not been very successful. In fact, even with Gwen but for quite different reasons and in any case she was then sgrezzata field. Owen thought that I almost feel a pleasure in challenging a masculine weapon. He sought the corner of them on his right. So dressed in tight pants and leather jacket seemed one of those heroines exits of American action movies. The haircut was not to a time, now if I ironed every morning. And make-up ... Poor her belly, not knowing what he was doing and see it change so much, probably lived in fear of losing is not enough. And you know, when one begins to heal a little there 's always a middle man or a woman.
"Owen!" Jack warned him moving with his shoulder to shoot straight in front of a wasp. "Head on the neck and fingers on the trigger." Jack had the creatures around them, more and more.
"Ianto, here is a brilliant idea."
Owen recovered quickly, put the right wrist on his left arm and began to shoot wildly.

brilliant idea .... more easily said ...
Ianto bit his lower lip, her forehead wrinkled pale. His eyes sought those of the only other person present in the base, in a suit seeking help.
hated to stay there safely while others exposed to similar risks. He hated not being alongside Jack in danger ...
heard his voice, remote, distant, yet exceptionally quiet and safe, in spite of his fear of his concern.
"Jack, insects are highly sensitive to electromagnetic waves and high-frequency radio waves. Indeed it seems that these can cause death. I do not think they make exceptions, except for size. I think it would be worth groped. You can use the Vortex Manipulator, or maybe Tosh has some idea ... "

Ianto's mind was with his companions to the point that Julian did not notice move and slipping behind. In fact, through the headset, the world was made of gunfire and screaming, it was impossible to hear any sound but when she felt a hand shaking his shoulder suddenly everything was back to the here and now, like a tape rewinds.
just instinctively lifted his head as if to defend himself a few shots and closed his eyes, giving himself a fool naive.
Julian approached him, almost to pull her face to his.
"A wonderful idea, Ianto Jones." Spoke softly, had removed the headset. "If it works, and I am sure it will work on their own to fill the soil copper powder as quickly as possible. "A short silence
then pointed to a monitor that ran a biological analysis of the tentacles that Tosh was sending in the heart of the inferno, crouched behind his companions, who made her shield.
"Look." Boning without the voice of the Scottish accent. He spoke in a surreal slow for that situation. "It 's like the fungi, only bigger. If you kill the body, the spores will proliferate, you have to destroy it and use copper to clean up. "
Ianto caught the corner of a grimace of pain, fleeting. Lip skin was cut back and talking now he licked away the blood. The hand shook more forcefully on his shoulder,
Julian smiled, then walked away.

"Copper? Do you think we carry it in your pocket? "Owen said, breaking down another wasp. Now that magnetic waves transmitted by Tosh had knocked their sense of direction, it was even fun to do target shooting with those beasts!
"I also think the copper" echoed Jack, taking aim, and added:
"Ianto, can you think?"
Ianto nodded, as if Jack might see him. But it was the only Julian Vallantine ...
"We have explosives on suv" Gwen offered, evidently of giant wasps and fungi had just above the tip of the hair.
"An explosion disperse the spores," Ianto objected, and sought confirmation in the eyes of Julian.
"We pretty poison" proposed Toshiko, peeping between the heads of their colleagues.
Owen looked skeptical, but not interrupted.
"When I was a child, I had a neighbor who did not get along with my grandfather ... My grandfather had a beautiful garden ... "the Japanese said, excitedly.
"Well, it happened that this neighbor has poisoned the plant, using the freeze of the car ...
"Try not harmful," said Jack, "Run, Gwen"

"You the molecular composition of this antifreeze Ianto? "said Julian. What
nodded and slid his hands on the console. "We have the chemical composition of everything"
"Terrestrial and not .." he concluded for the Scot who already read "The mushrooms are small and adaptable beings stubborn god but what I liked walking in a forest full of Their scent .. "
" apologizing "Owen protested loudly that he was thinking more and more intensely explosives, Gwen. "But we want to return to the pressure ...." He could not
finish the sentence. The earth shook and jumped to their feet, raising a cloud of dust. Semiaccecato Owen repaired her face, coughing Jack felt a little distance and then a scream of Gwen. Then he was silent, motionless in the air and dense. The world had turned into a thick cloud and heavy that it barely crossed the light, the muffled sounds came out. One, two, three beats of the heart of Owen, then the ground began to shake and got up beside him and something he grew up, grew up to tower over them.
"Jack" Ianto whispered that he could not see anything. Julian
beside him holding his breath.
"Copper is it?" And scolded Owen. "Leave it to the professionals ..." But Julian
paid no attention to the attack and shouted, "Cover up your mouth and nose, do not breathe!"
"Do not breathe? Other possibilities? "Was the voice of Gwen who had re-emerged in that dust suspended like a ghost.
"Gone" Jack took advantage of the silence to find her smile. "There are many good reasons to improve the apnea, not only
avoid becoming the home of a fungus in space." On their heads the creature had taken the form of a large drum club whose cap is still closed well explain the origin of its name. Go
Tosh, try anti-freeze. "
Julian fidgeted restlessly in front of the chemical composition of antifreeze. It seemed that something does not convince him at all.

"We need to get children out of here," Jack hissed.
however hard he tried, none of them was able to remain in apnea for a long time, let the kids passed out. Bent over
itself Toshiko coughed painfully.
"Ianto, Vallantine, guidateci out of here" he ordered, holding a child and struggling with each arm in the air dense looking for a way out.
"Proceed straight, Jack, and be careful with the roots ... We're almost there ... "Ianto shouted, looking frantically scanning the ground screen.
"If you can take out of the reach of spores can attach it somehow course, the frost would have been more effective if that thing had not moved ...." ended bitterly.
It took several laps to bring all the children and the teacher out of the cloud of spores. The ambulance had already arrived, although the police did not think to keep anyone away from the area.
"I always vote for the explosives ... maybe a flamethrower "Gwen teased, her eyes red and his face flushed.
Owen grinned.
"I do not know to what extent it would be effective" objected Jack, who seemed to have taken seriously the damn speech.
"There are fungi that synthesize gas and hydrocarbons in a natural way, through the disposal of plant remains consisting of cellulose ... I do not think it would be manufacturing them on fire, but you never know ... "
are outside the cloud of spores, now that was increasingly widening. The top of the large mushroom he pierced the top, stands threateningly over them.
"Whatever we do, you should decide to do it fast," remarked Toshiko, wide eyes fixed on the dark surface of the fungus.
"Why?" Owen said, spitting on the ground and spores. "What else could happen?"
"Well ..." he stammered Toshiko, "the fungus could open up ..." How many times
mushrooms grow unseen in the course of one day, under rotting leaves or logs felled in the heart? In a single day can reach their adult state at a speed that few other creatures can boast.
'E' as in Journey to the Center of the Earth ... "Tosh whispered enchanted when he realized they had a quiet moment unexpected. The large trunk rose up on them in the strange transparency. Pale rays of sunlight cut the air in which the spores were dancing like dust in an old room. "Enchanting"
"Here we are," said Owen, who struggled from child to child.
"Ianto, expect another brilliant idea!" But the headset came
only silence. Ianto stared at viewers, his eyes sunk into frantic thoughts, his hand close to hand.
"E 'surreal ..." he protested to his lips, tried to help Julian still frowning and absorbed by the plant's molecular lattice. At first it seemed not to hear but then he said: "Of
them to use the fire extinguishers, fire-retardant foam to cover it. Ask for help from firefighters. "Then, seeing that Ianto looked at him thoughtfully, but do not make up his mind turned to indict. "What have you got to lose? If I'm wrong will not get any worse. " The other nodded
and took the index to the headset. "Did you hear Jack."
"Look, here we are," Gwen protested.
Ianto ignored her but she repeated. "Try to hold the mushroom foam fire retardant." Accepting the Scientific Council of the 800 for a Scottish break down the alien entity was not defined exactly what
advanced instrumentation, but it was not the best idea.

Gwen and Owen went to retrieve the fire extinguishers and spear them with belligerent air.
ordering Jack opened the valve, affecting the fungus with jets of foam.
Some firefighters rushed to give them a hand.
For a moment the rustle of the foam was the only sound audible over the screams and sirens.
Then, one short of grim gnashing seemed to spring from the same womb of the earth and rising, more and more sharp and deafening, so much so that several firefighters dropped their hoses to press his hands over his ears.
The beast, plant, fungus or whatever it was they debate rages, screaming. The proud stem shrank, shrank, folded in on itself limp flaccid. The earth shook again, then jumped
collapsed on itself in a crater covered with white foam. Do not spend more than a few minutes the creature lying at their feet practically unrecognizable.
"But what ... "Owen's eyes were running fast here and there. His cynicism gave way to curiosity. "What happened?" Jack smiled
charging the extinguisher on his shoulder as if it were a machine gun and the plan successful, entertaining a successful plan.
Watching his fellow white foam smeared smile widened and his eyes grew mischievous. Tosh's hair was all straight drives as spaghetti, a hair style very fashionable in some places Jack had visited. Gwen took off the foam with your fingers from his cheek and throw it away, embarrassed, but to be honest very similar to one of those girls who were playing in the mud in some places in London .... Cardiff lacked certain amenities.
"What happened?" Said Owen. "Well, something terrible and sad that deserves our sympathy: he stopped before the launch."
All three looked at him wrong, thinking about before it was a bad joke but when he looked at them with that his eyes, just raised an eyebrow and his eyes half closed as soon as they realized that was not joking at all.
"I think was a probe of colonization. I heard about it but I had never seen. When they find a suitable planet send messages into space to call the settlers plant. Or at least I think .. "He shrugged. Then he carried the index to the headset "Ianto ... Julian "the two names jumped to his voice as a musical instrument, the first rich, then deep," a brilliant idea. "
" Lord ... a duty. "Said Ianto. He started to turn around to congratulate Julian and only then realized he was gone.
The excitement was too busy to hear you were away. At a glance even the monitor was no sign of him. He silently cursed and banged his fist on the console looking elsewhere. Should have answered, he knew, but he could trust so simple ... Just then his glance fell on a piece left on the console next to him. Took it, stretched with anger and read
"flood the ground sulfur mixed with water."

PART 6

"Risotto with mushrooms ?...."
Owen raised his head from the pot that had been placed in front with exaggerated slowness. The subdued laughter of Tosh and Gwen made him sound carpet.
"Why is not it? "asked Ianto Jones, that, as used to conceal any emotion, struggle hard to keep from laughing in front of incredulous expression grim, and the young doctor.
"What I like about you, Ianto, plus a number of features that do not think it should be listed in front of our colleagues, is that you know make the most of every resource."
Jack's intervention provoked ; a storm of conflicting reactions, which ran out in just a few intense seconds. Gwen
A cautious curiosity.
a resigned grunt in Owen.
A healthy and smiling in complicity Toshiko.
embarrassment, but also pleasure in Ianto Jones.
"Risotto is excellent, Ianto, very good." That he wanted to congratulate Gwen, leading to the mouth a generous mouthful of food.
"Do not be offended if I can not eat it, Ianto," Owen muttered, pushing the plate away from you.
"But feel it! As you are gentle, Owen Harper, "Gwen took him around, jostling playfully. M
he did not listen and his plate was parked in the middle of the table, still steaming. Toshiko method selected with care outside the grains of rice inward, occasionally stabbing the larger pieces of fungus. "But I still have not understood a thing. How did he react that way to the foam fire retardant? "
Ianto was sitting in turn to eat, when he was sure that everything was on the table. "The tests say it was a being made to travel in space, just like Jack said. In terms of travel, at very low temperatures or in the absence of oxygen, has regressed immediately to ensure the level of spore survival. And the fire-retardant foam, well, that eat oxygen to extinguish the fire. "For the deployment.
"Impressive," said Gwen, tasting another bite and then filling in for Owen and if a glass of wine. He meanwhile stretched rocking chair on its hind legs.
Jack had put the face on his hand and had become thoughtful, always half-smile on his lips.
Tosh came to speak: 'There is another thing I do not understand. "
" What's that? "Rocked Owen
" How did a nineteenth-century Scottish tell? & Rdquo ;
L in question fell into silence. Everyone seemed committed only to chew. Julian
Vallantine .. had managed to surprise them for good, nothing to say! Damn Scottish blood! And to think that Jack seemed placid water ....
On returning from the mission, Ianto had welcomed them with a drawn face, dampening their enthusiasm now for success.
if Jack was not even taken with him, that would be served. It was not even so much the way if Vallantine had slipped away to send him into a beast, because the stupidity of the young botanist. Where he hoped to go to hell? As could be expected to return in his day, if possible, without their help?
"something against the Scots, Captain?" The full lips
Jack Harkness curled into a smile, hearing the voice of Julian.
Even Ianto smiled, hurrying to get up and serve him a bit 'di'riso.
Julian sat at ease, as if they had been there, as if that was always his home.
"Let's say that at times are the most obvious things to surprise you." Jack said, pouring a glass of wine.
"And you, Captain?" Said the botanist quiet, looking into his eyes.
"There's still something that can surprise you?"
Undoubtedly there. See
Julian Vallantine sitting in his cell after everyone had given him to escape had surprised him how! There was no need for explanations, in reality, the Scot had made a commitment with Ianto to go back to his cell when you have help, and so he did. How to show that, after all, if that was not the most suitable age for men of honor, this does not mean that they did not exist ...
"Within a week the remediation of contaminated land should be concluded" Ianto announced, open to everyone, but especially to the young botanist, who gave a half smile.
"All missing men were recovered and are in hospital. The fungus, fortunately kept them alive until the last "Toshiko said, visibly pleased.
"All's well that ends well," crooned Owen, however, could not stop watching the risotto with suspicion.
"There will be a lot of work to reseat the gardens and the garden," said Jack, looking at Julian with intention.
"Do you think I might need a good botanist?" The churches, with intention.
T osh leaned forward, Gwen mimed inattention, but each of them was hold. Julian
in those days had proved a pleasant company, perhaps because everything was new for him had not shown dismay rather than enthusiasm in the face of incredible things that had been shown. For him, a car or a pterodactyl in the flesh were two things that are impossible in his time. Sure they could put him in a rehabilitation program, but it was clear that he would have gone close, it seemed he had already replaced without them and now, well, now would be like a cut flower.
And then there was the Torchwood
... "It would be a priceless opportunity" has begun to respond Julian dopo qualche attimo di riflessione, reclinando appena il capo e chiedendosi quali pensieri passassero dietro lo sguardo di Jack. “ It was there that he shrugged disconsolate air .. "Please understand that this person could well be said to be lucky, because such a group is unique to find."
anto I smiled to himself, glancing at Jack.
was fun to see him struggling with Vallantine, we had the impression that the young Scot could stand up to him. Almost ...
In fact, he was attending a skirmish in which Jack was caused, rather than cause, to be unusual and interesting.
"If you find one, Vallantine, Warn 'said Jack, seraphic," I was just thinking of asking a transfer. "
There was a fun exchange of glances, and Gwen snorted a short laugh.
"If you expect me ask you to stay, Julian Vallantine, wasting your time," he added Jack, can not understand what was actually serious. The others remained pending, perplexed.
Captain continued, eyes fixed on Julian, eye to eye.
"I mean ... you want to go back to Torchwood, and this at the moment, "he looked around, taking up room, but symbolically the entire base," is the only Torchwood where you can go, which you can hope to belong. For now. And only if you want "
The expressions on the faces of young and changed in a few moments as the skies of Scotland: at first his eyes filled with challenge when he was refused, then his lips shook a little and leaned a smile that never left completely free. Rather, his chin lifted slightly, the expression became ironic and playfully said, "What would you not the Captain, to never ask anything to anyone? People hang from your lips as if they knew of honey, but perhaps only because he never let that touch on. "
a bit 'all at the table moved at ease and lowered look, then Julian freed her smile. "But do not worry, I'm not afraid to ask and indeed, I would be grateful if you would accept me here because I realize that there is' a great deal that I recovered."
I the face of Jack, which was obscured, lay, though her eyes maintained a hardness almost painful.
"Well, better that way, then. You will have a place to come back, and Ianto will have a playmate. "
At these words, Jack Ianto blushed scarlet and looked lost.
"joking ...." she whispered, wrinkling his face into a smile. A smile that was crystallized in the face as he watched the rest of the team to officially welcome Julian.
"Boys," said Julian "welcome in my part of it gave a good glass of beer. I think it is a good starting point to get back to discover new usages of the pub. What do you say? "
Owen laughed heartily. "This guy I like. And you could not be more lucky, I'm no expert, believe me. "
" Ah yes sure .. "Gwen said" Trust me, no one like him is able to swallow anything, can not tell from the Guinness tar. "
" Speak the alcoholic. "Owen pulled her toward the stairs while Tosh ran to his position to take the jacket. Was about to run away when he saw Ianto and Captain were still stuck where they were. "But you do not come?"
"Ianto has launched a scanning on the ground that the city will end soon. I look and he will arrive soon. "
Tosh with his confident smile nodded and ran after the others. The voices of Owen and Gwen were already distorted echo down the stairs, only Julian era ancora sulla porta aspettandola e fissò i due lungamente finché Tosh lo raggiunse e andarono via insieme.

“Beh” commented, "The base is empty ..". That expression on his face was painted by scoundrel who caused him so much success, bowed his head back and looked straight in the eyes of the partner. "Do you have time for a new challenge? "
" I do not remember who won the final, he won exactly what to tell the truth. "He remembered that Ianto's voice as always, when it came to remember, he let slip into the warm notes voice.
Jack stood with a sudden gesture and quickly slid to his shoulders and leaned put their hands on his shoulders. He touched her neck, inhaling the scent of his aftershave, he could not prevent - but because they always wanted - to touch it with his lips to Ianto feel stiff, motionless and waiting. Then he tried his ear, he nibbled the lobe of a canine, and pinching small voice whispered with her lips of honey: "I think the last time we won both."

PART 3

His sister gave him tea and sat down, prolonging the silence between them like a reproach. Since their mother died when he was still little more than a child, had felt compelled to replace it and now that man was made did not want to give up that role, like any mother.
"Julian really, it's time to get settled. Your studies are commendable, your dedication to the land is commendable and accounts certainly not diminished, but you should find a wife. You have a certain age now, looks like our father very much and there would be no unmarried girl who would not appreciate such a party "
" You have well said my dear sister, a party. The thing I do not care "cut short with the roughness that leads to a discourse already addressed many times.

Elisabeth Vallantine picked up the handkerchief and smoothed with care and placed it on lips well designed.
"This is probably the Lady Morgwen protected? You're no longer a boy Julian, you should know that marriage is not an affair of the heart. "
" It seems to me that you and your husband you are a happy couple. "Provoked by the cold voice. He loved his sister, but there were some limitations that no one could afford to overcome. He ended up shooting the tea into the cup, he tapped the spoon once or twice against the fine china and without a drink and pushed her toward her sister stood up.
"Excuse me dear sister, but there ' down to a wild boar farm McKintosh that is destroying the crop. "He nodded and walked away. He took the hall decorated with deer antlers of a theory that the back door and entered the conservatory. Li, the sun was blinding and shielded his eyes with his hand to get used to.

When he opened them again the light had become cold and thought he was going to get a storm. But the glass was gone, all the greenhouses were gone, was in a small room by metal walls, narrow as to be claustrophobia. He closed his eyes clutching his temples between thumb and forefinger. Then again returned their way to the pain.

"He woke up."
Owen pointed to the screen in which the prisoner was moving, slowly and cautiously, becoming aware of his new condition.
"The computer has finished scanning the total?" Inquired Jack, standing behind her, a cup of coffee in hand and absorbed expression.
"Yes," said Toshiko ready, making up a screen of data that began to slide quickly on the monitor.
"I still can not say for sure, but certainly it is human ... only, fessuriale is impregnated with energy, and more ... "
" Perhaps it is passed through the slot. And, in this case, where would be? "Ianto said, noting that the boy was moving more and more nervous. "Someone should get to talk to him."
Ianto distrusted by all that came out of the slot. He had never brought anything good to the team. Even when the appearance of the visitors was very pleasant. Indeed, in that case was even worse, he thought, recalling John Hart. A grimace involuntarily twitched his face, only for a moment. All in all The Weevil was more manageable, certainly not unpredictable!
"I'm going to talk to me" Gwen offered, and others might put his mouth before he headed to the cells on the fifth floor. That was his job, investigating, steal information. Jack merely to observe it disappear and reappear shortly after the close circuit monitor. The angled view from the top make it all a bit 'surreal.
Owen leaned his elbows on the floor of the console, next to Toshiko that pursed his lips and focused more on his scanner.
"In your opinion where it comes from? I would bet it was a plant. "Owen said.
"Well, it's not right." Tosh murmured settling his glasses and pointing the view of the cascade of numbers of his monitor.
"I could refer them for discrimination if you do not stop organic." Jack behind them seemed very serious and it put Ianto uncomfortable.
Owen continued: "However, his wound is clean, the normal course, no acceleration of metabolic abnormality. It has a strong fiber. "
Gwen was already stopped in front of the transparent wall. He had his hands in his back pockets, pushing a little forward for a better look while he spoke.
"Hello"
The young man looked at her without saying a word.
Gwen coughed and repeated "Hello"
The boy's eyes quickly looked around, his right hand began to unbutton his red shirt that Owen had found that his visa had been smeared with blood.
"I'm sorry for that ..." Gwen nodded "I did not want to hurt you, but you have no idea what I have seen e.." And not being able to say something, or finding a good way to end the sentence, remained firm. Seeing that the other
does not say a word, Gwan puffed out his cheeks.
"Do not you will retain most of the time," she smiled, encouragingly, "But we need to know what you know about the disappearance of the gardener and the growth of plants in the botanical garden. E'fondamentale IRQs for us what is happening, to prevent other people disappear, you understand that? "She sighed, passing his hand through his hair.
If the boy knew, did not seem willing to express it, not to her, at least. Gwen took a chair and stood in front of the wall of unbreakable glass. Could not have been more stubborn a Weevil, and His appearance was certainly more pleasant ...
"You hungry? Do you want me to bring along? A cup of tea, maybe ?..." inquired gently.
The young man was checking the wound and as controlled hovered over his face a surprised look.
"It 's our doctor," Gwen said, "can do miracles with his hands."
Tosh behind the cameras glanced reproachfully at Owem who shrugged and gave a smile of his long, thin "They say it all."
In cell Andrew buttoned his shirt and brought before the glass, staring down on Gwen.
"I'm sorry but I know nothing of your garden even if I praise your dedication. Certainly already know, but those plants are not "hesitate" I do not seem normal. Whatever the hybrid created those growing at an unnatural speed also composed beyond the limits dictated by the biological family. "He shook his head. "It 's all I know. Now, you might get me out? "He spoke calmly, made with a sense of resignation which he put Gwen uncomfortable.
"As soon as the doctor will have told you that you are well let you go." He murmured.
"But who says?" Owen broke his companions looked stunned.
"I promise." Strengthens the young.
Jack was still, arms folded, face inscrutable.
"If we leave them still bet they release him, he does it with everybody!" Owen protested. "Someone should tell her that sooner or later get tired to save her."
The young man was right in the middle of the monitor. The hair close in a queue now disheveled scrutinized every corner without concern for Gwen.

"Luckily he did not know anything about what's going on," objected Ianto, leaning toward the screen.
"I doubt that a simple botanical can even sense the change in course in the vegetation," he continued, looking for approval in the eyes of Jack.
The latter nodded, seemingly lost in thought. "I think it's time to find out who really is our friend from pollen easy," he announced, heading for the stairs leading downstairs.
There were situations where the method of investigation was not Gwen suffciente, contingencies that would require his personal intervention. There was almost always a valid reason why a man stealing the name of another man. Everything was to see if the plea was valid for them too.
"Tell Gwen to be brought into the interrogation room and leave it there." Ordered, she went away.
The three exchanged glances then left dumbfounded as one man. Ianto went to prepare the room, there were many ways to persuade a person ... and everyone needed the right gadget. Toshiko prepared to detect changes in the energy of the room while Owen still looking for some recognition of that face nell'anagrafe past and present. He lifted his head with a slight buzz when the warning screen appeared a face portrait in oils, the base emblazoned with the name Andrew Loering. Although the portrait appeared now in his sixties, it was clear that even at a young age could never look like their prisoner handlebar mustache, angular face and thin eyes and blacks.
"Jack" the communicator said immediately "I found a portrait of Andrew Loreing dall'univeristà York, fortunately have portraits of all their past and future teacher. E y'know what? It is certainly not him. And listen here ... what a coincidence taught botany. "
" Let me know everything that is known of him, acquaintances, abnormal situations. "Jack said. His voice understood all that was no longer joking.
"Gwen, is there?"
"Yes Jack, I left them alone."
"Very good, go to Toshiko and follow us on screens, I want you to grasp every detail."
"Well,"
Ianto's voice peeped. "You have the food, detector majano and I took the liberty to recover the truth machine. "
" Thank you, Ianto, "Jack smiled.
And there it was, the door. Jack stopped his momentum and allowed a moment to think. He had a suspect but no motive, no connection. It would be content to begin with a name. So he opened the door.
The young man turned his back, was looking straight at the camera, one hand close to the other wrist behind his back. When he heard the door open, turned - Jack noted that he had reconstructed the wild hair in the tail - With a half smile and greeting. "Ah, you are."
Jack smiled, closing the door.
A friendly smile, and diplomat. The kind of smile that can be granted to those who are to undergo an interrogation ...
"Few would turn that way to anyone nowadays," said, arching an eyebrow as he walked to the table in the middle of the room and took place in one of two chairs placed on either side of it.
"The last vote that happened was because I thought you two different people, but it was very dark, and no longer understood who was touching thing ...." pointed out. The expression vaguely lost the prisoner urged him to stop the digression.
"If you like the 'you' can adapt easily, but only if it serves to put more at ease. The shoulder is doing better? "He asked. He sat with
expression relaxed, laid his hands clasped on the table. He was released the military coat, and blue shirt, left open at the neck, gave glimpses of a white t-shirt.

"Then who are you, who you are and where you come from, 'he said, suddenly serious," because it seems clear that you are not Andrew Loreing University of York, unless the thing that is making the plants grow out and disappear gardeners has benefited immensely to your appearance. I think it is right for you to know that I will not take another 'know nothing' in response to: find out what I'm interested to discover, with or without your cooperation, but "the smile returned to relax, at least in part, face, "we say that with your help could be more pleasant. Both for you and me. Unless you do not have bold flavors ... "he concluded, winking allusion. The allusion flew
to the so-called Andrew and he fell at his feet. It looked like watching the young, as he meditated with his chin resting on his chest.
Jack waiting patiently and smiling. In fact, we enjoyed every moment. Could almost hear the whirring of wheels in the head to think about the future not only answers but was certain that this young man had not yet surrendered stubborn about being locked up, I'll say the light of his careful eye. Who feels a prisoner does not have that vitality, the captive takes it with him. The self-styled Andrew seemed angry, almost outraged, not at all given up.
"Unfortunately, what I say is true, we want to hear or not." Said quietly.
"Your real name" Jack smiled.
"Do not say anything"
"You try" a thrilling reversal of the parties, was now elevated the Jack and the prisoner had changed with some effort log. Likewise for the claims was too stubborn and after another silence Jack Ianto called out loud. He suddenly came with a tray and two cups.
"Jack" Owen buzzed the transmitter "I made a small addition to the, should make it available."
"Oh thanks Ianto. Boy "He turned to the prisoner," This is Ianto Jones, my invaluable collaborator. " Ianto lowered his head (after all, Jack thought he was rather outdated, brilliantly outdated) and the prisoner replied with a quiet "It 's a pleasure." Then they were again alone.
Jack handed him the steaming cup to the prisoner who took it in his hands and eyes without detachment from his party he inhaled the scent. Jack grinned, stood up to grab the cup of his hand and took a long sip before riporgerglia with a mocking smile. "For peace of mind. Now do not make me lose my patience, it would be unfortunate, and do not put limits on the availability of my understanding. I know you come from afar, but I do not know exactly where, how, and why not. "
The prisoner took a long drink in turn and finally sat down.
"What took you there?" Feels' Gwen ask earpiece.
"Mary." Owen said.
"Who?" Churches Toshiko.
"weed. Some students had planted in the garden down the university. "
"That is, you're drugging a prisoner," asked Gwen horrified.
addict ... I'm making it available. "
" Oh well then! Jack heard? You'll be happy! "Gwen outburst.
"First things first, do you want?" Suggested Jack, with a persuasive voice. And he added with a smile as soft as velvet, "Is not that the best place to start? You are a student of botany, right? Your namesake was, at least. "
" What will take to work? " Toshiko asked nervously, twisting a nail.
"Bha, it depends ..." Owen muttered, looking vaguely, and added, staring at my colleague: "Have you ever smoked? But where have you lived
!?!?" "I do not think I'm the only one in here!" Protested Tosh, seeking confirmation in the eyes of colleagues, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world that were given. But both Gwen and Ianto looked away, apparently the first time looking out the moves of Jack and the prisoner in the monitor, the other suddenly distracted by the coffee machine ... The girl
Japanese blinked once, twice, before returning to work with a small sigh.
"I am a passionate, but not a teacher." Answered the young man at last. "I found the name of Loreing studying the publications of the late nineteenth century." He shrugged as if to say that this was of little consequence. Then he looked around. "It 'a police station?"
"Not exactly," Jack corrected him, "maybe yes, depending on your point of view ..."
looked around as if he could, through the bare walls and colorless in the room, embracing the entire underground structure.
He looked at his interlocutor.
"It would be a problem for you if so? Got something to hide from the police? Not that it is essential for me to know. Usually the police have objectives that differ from mine. "
" But the methods do not vary that much, I think ... "said the boy, asking neutral look, although not without critical.
"Oh, no," Jack corrected him, shaking his head in denial, "our methods are much, much worse!" added, with a look of warning, but also clearly amused.
"I know who you are, at this point?" The boy asked wearily. Maybe it was the drugs to begin to take effect, or perhaps just another tactic to divert the attention of his tormentor. He sat in front of Jack, his chin resting on his hand.
"If you want me, I told you who they are: Captain Jack Harkness. But if you plan the rest of the team, well, we Torchwood "seraphic said, and added, looking into his eyes," and at this point, are still missing and only your presentations ... or your ... "
But again he ignored him, but his brow wrinkled, gray eyes darkened and straightened in his chair.
"What you're Torchwood," he asked almost indignantly.
Jack was taken aback but grossed well. Torchwood Who was usually asked, what was going badly, but now had the distinct impression that the young man they knew. Jack certainly did not know him, which implied that the self-styled Andrew - was beginning to tire of its release - is certainly wrong.
"Exactly what I said, we're Torchwood, actually home to Cardiff.
"I'm afraid not to follow .. you. "Torchwood is an estate of Scottish territory. I was saying, now is uninhabited. "
" You seem to know him very well ... "Jack put his chin on his hands, fingers intertwined.
"I lived in the neighborhood." Murmured the young man leaning back. He was still wearing that mask to hide emotions well built, but seemed preoccupied, tired.
"Do not worry, I will not hurt, even if I can help you, believe me. What is your name "
" You then a captain ... "said the other enigmatic in tone ..
Jack nodded.
"My name is Julian Patrick Vallantine." Surrendered, "and none."
The intercom buzzed. "Vallantine Julian Patrick, born in Edinburgh in 1851, died in 1874 at ..." Ianto stopped. "Torchwood, Scotland."

PART 4

"recap"
Toshiko's voice had been talking, as usual. It was always her at meetings, to be felt, from time to time, at almost regular intervals, to stop the flow of information and take stock of the situation. As if his mind he needed to think in points, notes, lists of data skimmed all the unnecessary and easily assimilated.
Owen had suggested that once the brain of the Japanese, and not only that, it only works with a binary system, but Tosh probably would have taken that statement as a compliment.

"This guy ... Vallatine Julian Patrick, comes from the past .." she spoke quickly slid the tip of the stylus on the screen of your handheld.
"He crossed the slit at a place called Torchwood, Scotland. "
"Or more likely so called" corrected Gwen, thoughtfully. The Japanese
nodded, picking up.
"and ended up in Cardiff ... What's the point? And above all, what enters the plant ?...."
"Maybe nothing at this point," Jack ruled, in a sigh.
"Go!" Owen interjected with a grin. "A botanist of the first 800 check it out at Cardiff, while the vegetation crazy makes people disappear into the forest and gardens turned to Jurassic Park, complete with prehistoric wasps, and he has nothing to do?! Jack! "
" Maybe the two are separate, "Ianto said, sipping his coffee. He was standing beside the chair of Jack. No one was prevented from taking place at the table of the meeting, it was entitled as others. But he was right there where he was.
"Perhaps the botanist happened here by accident, and disappearances are due to something else ... or maybe something has led to his coming here and the disappearance other men, but he ignores what it is ... "
" And maybe now he gone people are happily in Scotland this Torchwood, or what's left to drink whiskey?!? "interrupted sardonic Owen . Jack
imposed silence.
"I continue to question him," he said, fiddling with his pen, making her jump on the table, dry movements, fast and silent.
"Yeah, because otherwise I would have given a free trip," said Owen, earning glares choir.
"But what we know This Scottish Torchwood? "Gwen asked, to no one in particular, although his eyes do not give even a moment Jack.
"Yeah, it is strange that none of us are informed about it ..." echoed Tosh. Jack was silent, and silence made her face like the austere facade of a church.
"I do not think is relevant at the time," he said simply, Aton.
"Why not?" Gwen snapped, eyes wide. "You do not want me to believe that just a coincidence! Would be a little too much the coincidences, at this point! "
Ianto watched Jack in silence. There were secrets which their leader was very jealous, and he knew it well. Kept those secrets in his eyes, like a chest without a key, no lock, a necropolis of silence and shadow. A place so cold and sad, so lonely for a single person.
"More coffee?" He asked, leaning on his shoulder.
Make me the seal of your secrets, their plaque, their tomb. Let me preserve and protect what we do not know what you do not want to know, if you do not want. You know I would die for you, let me live ....
Jack smiled, nodding assent.
"Thank you, Ianto, it would be perfect," he said.
"Feel" Gwen interjected, leaning on the conference table and already smiling to himself for the absurd idea that came to mind. "The guy is a highlander ... and if it was a Highlander?"
Toshiko's eyes lit up. "The energy that we see could be the reminiscence. It may have been given up for dead and abandoned them. "He looked at Jack. "It could be like you!"
Owen interjected. "But you are crazy, spores, film. Say that you hope to get to see the English horse so we put the icing on the cake. "
Ianto coughed to attract attention. "It may not be an idea so crazy, if we focus too much on Sean Connery. It 'true, however, CEH archives, either civil or religious, mentioning the extraordinary events that considering the importance of family in the area would certainly Vallantine emerged to chronicle. It seems to have died during a hunt wild boar. "
"Wild boar hunting ..." he repeated to himself Gwen, as if trying to focus on the thing.
shrugged his shoulders, like a restless horse.
"However, I see no reason not to investigate this mysterious Torchwood Scotland. Could not the archives does not mention it, what do you think, Jack? "Looked at him hopefully. But the captain's face was inscrutable.
"I say that you and Owen should go sl instead of the other disappearances that Toshiko would examine the samples of vegetable crops, and Ianto should make sure that no one sets foot in the areas of maximum development of vegetation. We do not want to answer the big bee sting like stabs. "
" And what will you do? "Gwen asked, frowning, as always when he had something to argue.
"Me?" Said Jack, and for the first time the shadow of a smile returned to curl the corner of his mouth.
"I'm going to enjoy even a little the company of our charming botanical."
"Let us know what happens when you cut off his head," Owen snorted, getting up to go.
Gwen could not hold back a fire of his eyes but strangely did not insist. Perhaps he was convinced that it would be useless, perhaps the idea that someone could run into monsters in Cardiff buzzing recalled his sense of responsibility.
"Then we go ..." said Tosh with a nervousness that was apparent from his clear way of moving, pointing with his arm in the direction of. This was very Japanese.
"Of course we are" throwing the filming Owen on the bag for testing in the field. "Move."
disappeared behind the door of the corridor north and ended with a hit sound. Ianto was still there when the echo went out, standing next to Jack that he turn the chair and looked at him, his legs crossed and hands folded on his stomach.
expectations, raising an eyebrow.
"According to the chronicles of the time Julian returned dead from the hunt, the family doctor has not left any reference to injuries or condition of the patient. Yet the only funeral was held two weeks later. "
Jack wondered as he did a sharp mind like that to hide behind a face so mild. It was incredible capacity of humans to recover from the saddest of situations, Ianto it was proof, going day after day, finding new strength.
"I also found a close correspondence between Julian and Andrew Loreing, it seems they were still friends when the teacher was studying at York. "
" You're priceless, Ianto "
Ianto paused, looking up Jack. A small smile crossed his face, making it appear instantly extraordinarily young.
"I do my best" is the screen.
"I know," he answered, his voice so low as to be barely audible in the hushed silence of the room. The same silence that enveloped them both, when the last words fell, like petals of a corolla now bare, soft thuds on which they moved their eyes, free of the reasons why.
Ianto opened his lips, not because he had nothing to add. Only, he feared that the breathing betrayed him, and that if he had not allowed the silence of entrargli inside would die, again and again, the sight of those eyes that once and for all, had overwhelmingly called when all around was only death, by imposing the most painful choices: to live ...
"It must be interesting for you to talk to him," he murmured, unable to move away from the table, and Jack. He was referring to the prisoner, of course, that man should have been dead nearly two hundred years before, but that seemed very alive and well, if you exclude the vague fog due to drugs fed into by Owen, in their interrogation room.
"You think?" Jack asked, raising an eyebrow with amusement, "Frankly I'm not sure that it is not my type ..."
"Since you have a guy?" Ianto asked. Ianto impertinent, damn his eyes innocent !....
Jack stood with a grin, and pointed the finger at.
"Take heed to thyself, Ianto Jones "it warned," After all, under the influence of a drug, I might not be master of my actions. "
"I'm running a considerable risk, I am aware, sir," Ianto repeated quiet, looking straight at me.
Jack narrowed his eyes, the air between them vibrated. The base was empty, except for prisoners, as empty late in the night or in the young hours of the morning when everything is expected to begin within hours of their meetings. Jack clenched his jaw and a part of him wanted to leave everything and go wait in the his office, the other coming last peeped into his consciousness just in time to stop him. Rise then, quietly and tastefully, carefully leaving the threads of that closeness.
"Remember the beer that won yesterday, I'd like to receive the award tonight." He said getting up.
Ianto cleared his throat and checked in his notebook. "Sure." Then move the hand that shook the elegant ballpoint pen as if you just remembered something and walked to his duties.
Jack was left alone, in the main room, with the hum of cooling fans. For a while ' they remained seated, his lips resting on the index of the right hand holding thoughtfully approaches the face. In warning the prisoner observed measure steps to his own cell, stopping occasionally only to resume. If you ever had any effect the device of nice that Owen had already waned. Do not wear clothes retro, only a pair of jeans, sneakers and a red shirt. He did not look scared of travelers who had used involuntary rather looked like a caged animal. The band had given him to keep the arm still hanging loose around his neck.
Jack reached the control console and flicked open the lock of his cell, then turning on the microphone intercom: "Get out of there and take the first elevator that is, second floor, I'll wait."
The prisoner did not wait. Not bad for a man of the IXX century ...
seemed more curious than frightened by everything that her eyes could see, in that place that would have raised a lot of confusion even in individuals more 'current' than it was him.
Evidently he had seen enough of that time by not being more upset, or was an excellent dissembling.
Jack greeted him with the usual affability.
"There are coffee and desserts there. Help yourself "informed him, pointing to a low table placed under the mega-screen plasma that dominated the wall. He waited until he had served before continuing.
"In light of our recent conversation, Julian, I do not know if you are able to do something for us to help in the investigation, or we will be able to do something for you ..." I said, the tips of the fingers together, the absorbed expression.
The other looked at him puzzled.
"Help?"
"You live in an age that is not your "specific Jack, opening his hands as if he left the air flow.
"You look Essert already built, nothing to say, but maybe you need to compare yourself with someone ... someone who understands what happened to you ..."
looked into his eyes.
"Someone who understands what it means to ride the course of a life unwanted, coming and going from one world to another without belonging to any place, any time. See what I mean? "
" And would you be that someone "asked the young man, hard to say if that was searched detached tone or natural.
Jack rocked in his chair. "I saw many things, yes. ... But tell me - you get used to a more casual tone here - tell me what happened to you. How long have you here. "
Julian was holding a cup of tea, the other arm resting along the side in an almost natural way, be sure to gaze linger on every detail of the room.
"You know who I am and I do not believe a fool, you're not the police, you do game of death and never stop smiling."
"A natural talent"
Julian nodded, "I agree. How conceal your thoughts. "
Jack smiled even more. He was enjoying noticed those approaches to gain information. "How did you get in the twentieth century? Not today, not in the greenhouse is not it? "
" No, indeed. E 'already spent half a year. "
" Remarkable would say that you have not noticed before. "
" Who would notice a blacksmith? "
" It' s so that we 've earned a living? The blacksmith? "Julian shrugged
shoulders. "To make the staff are references."
"And as it happened." Insisted Jack riding time.
Julian turned to look on his face and a slow smile widened. "You how are you here?"
"Very ..."
"Very much?
"Very"
"Insist that I trust when you do not even know who you are?"
"Captain Jack Harkness, I have presented many times do you remember?"
"E are elusive. "
Jack accepted the compliment with a nod.
"Why is your name Torchwood?"
"Why not?" Jack shrugged.
"This is the name that was given to the institute since its founding. Do not be surprised if I had to do, just randomly, with your Torchwood "ventured.
"Do not be surprised or do you sure?" Asked the boy, but pretended it was not a question answered, not given to the man who still seemed him more determined to keep its secrets, and get as much information as possible without giving him anything in return.
"Do you know how it happened?" Jack continued, resting his head in hand, elbow on the armrest of the chair.
"I mean ... when you are past ..."
"What difference does it make?" Interrupted Julian, almost with irritation. As the irritation could find space in his gestures laid in his quiet voice, his expression distant.
"I came here for a long time and even where it was ignored here. I thought to be dead and they go to hell ... "
" There are few times sad, mediocre and hypocritical as this, Mr. Vallantine "sighed Jack.
"Oh yeah? You feel you belong to that era, Captain Harkness? ".
There was something crazy to sit in the locked room with no windows, talking to the man's arguments that, for all his life, Julian would be considered at the most appropriate for a gothic novel! His condition was not unfortunate enough, he had to encounter even then Jack Harkness, who spoke in riddles and held him, moreover, a prisoner!
Jack ignored the question. He did not know if you find annoying or teasing the imagination of the young, it was true that he was conducting a little. Like a game of chess not let it go without answer a question, did not reveal anything that they could not find out for themselves, had not shown any desire to rely on their help. It seemed rather a wounded animal ready to bite. The words came out almost like a reflection in a loud voice: "Where you going? What do you do without us? "
" Returning Home. "Julian put his mug on his desk and his eyes fell on the dagger that had saved Jack. He turned casually toward the exit, perhaps to hide his expression.
The screen lit up the wall and appeared Toshiko. "I'm sending Jack the samples in the laboratory, the greenhouse is sealed, but soon no longer able to contain it."
"Take away the light," whispered Julian.
"Jack?" Toshiko said he could not see them. He was silent for a moment, then in that tone he used to give confidence to repeated "Take off the light, the plants left in the dark."
Toshiko nodded and disappeared on the screen with a buzz. Even a few moments of silence, the footsteps of Julian returning to approach. Perhaps he understood, he thought Jack watching with curiosity those gray eyes, maybe it was his way of saying available. Julian placed himself close to the desk, leaned forward holding hands, leaning on his short-lived if the look of the ladies, and only when it was certain that Jack waiting for his word .. acted. He grabbed the knife with his left hand and using the right, using the full weight of the body, pushed him to Jack's desk and fled.
was the surprise, rather than the blow, to slow the reaction of Jack Harkness.
But not enough. Julian
Vallantine could also believe very smart, but that was its basis, its territory, and they needed something more than an innocuous-looking schoolboy to embarrass.
Roaring like a lion climbed over the table upset, and fell on the prisoner while the latter already earned the corridor. Julian
spun around, brandishing the knife. There was no panic to escape impromptu, in his eyes, but the firm, unwavering desire to gain their freedom at any cost, by any means. Jack
When lightning reached out to grab his arm, he did not hesitate to strike a blow to Texas, but discourage her assailant.
"Do not try to stop me!" Rebuked him in a whisper, a warning hissed between his teeth, not a pleading, nor a threat.
"In response to suit Jack smiled, made a feint to the right, then fall and spring forward, trying to overwhelm his opponent with his own weight.
He could try to convince, persuade, but the truth? The adrenaline had taken over.
Young tried to dodge it, rushing to one side, but was not fast enough, he was seized and dragged to life ground. All the air went out from the chest to the impact of a stifled curse. His back was stiff from the wound but in return was driven by the fury of anger, trying to hit Jack with the legs to detach, clutching the neck of his shirt in his fist right to take my breath away, like a fury. Rolled, once, twice, holding each other with their eyes as if will alone could decide the outcome of the meeting, they stopped only when the head of Julian leaned over the railing into the void, Jack over him, both were held by the throat with the lungs that scraped the air. Julian held the dagger in his left hand but was firmly blocked below the knee of the opponent.
"And now," asked Jack to his lips, his neck muscles to breathe hard.
Julian dropped his head back, looking below, his face flushed, then again Jack. In his eyes shone a light neutral. He did not like much to lose ... "down time" and with a flash if Jack dragged into the void.

wrecked on the table below, which is split in half with a bang, throwing everything that claimed around the room. The impact left them breathless both, for a moment.
Jack was the first to recover, and hit his opponent with a hard punch in the face.
"Jack, what's going on?"
Ianto came running, attracted by the sounds of struggle.
It took a moment to frame the situation, clear eyes wide open in surprise.
then intervened, making its way between the devastation and Julian grabbing her by the shoulders.
"In God's sake, calm down, Mr Vallantine!"
Julian on his own was now very calm, deathly calm, the peace that comes when you are given the bottom of every drop of energy and of which the dip in vacuum was the last desperate gesture. He had a broken lip, his shirt was wet with blood from the wound re-opened and breathed anguish. In fact it was not clear if Ianto hold him or sorreggesse.
Jack leaned over placing a hand on his knee, taking breath, then straightened up and rubbed his neck. Ianto knew him, was taking time to decide what to do.
"I hate to interrupt you," he began, continuing to hold Julian, "but there was another disappearance ... A school group of children, Grange Gardens. The boys are already going there "
Jack's face was crossed by a grimace of pain, impossible to say whether the news was received or the consequences of the recent struggle.
"after I finish with you," warned Julian, planting a finger at. And turning to Ianto, with a softer tone: "Put it in the cell and be ready to assist us out of here"
Ianto seemed about to protest, but his lips remained mute, and only nodded.
"Be careful" he merely said, while the captain had already started towards the exit, the pace just a bit 'wobbly.
"Always, Ianto. Still ... "she replied, glancing over his shoulder reassuringly.
